At Vecellio & Grogran, we are committed to building and improving our nation’s infrastructure to keep people and businesses moving throughout the Atlantic coastal states. But we wouldn’t be able to do our job without the men and women who are dedicated to protecting our nation, some of whom can even be found within our team.

We are grateful for military members and spouses on our crews, throughout the industry, and across our great nation. We tip our hats with gratitude and appreciation for the past and present United States military members. Thank you for all you do!

Leadership across V&G recently participated in our annual Manager Meeting in Brooksville, Florida. During this meeting, Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Management Staff discussed a unified approach to better serve our clients through aligned goals and shared successes – all while having some team-building fun!

A special thanks to Keith Lewis and his team at VeraSpark for facilitating the team building simulations, Cory Butz for cooking up incredible food on the Blackstone and smoker, and Alli Michael for being instrumental in planning this productive meeting.

Vecellio & Grogran teams have been “All In Together” with construction companies spanning the country this week in recognition of Construction Safety Week. 🦺🚧

Our heavy civil and marine construction crews up and down the east coast have taken time out of their week to talk as a team about our #1 job: keeping everyone safe.

Crews participated in interactive, two-way conversations covering a variety of highway and bridge construction safety topics, including work zone safety, equipment & truck safety, working over water & bridges, situational awareness, PPE compliance, stop work authority, and daily expectations.

“We don’t cut corners. We don’t take shortcuts. We build roads and bridges the right way – safely,” said Senior Director of Safety John Riley.

Thanks to our crews for consistently prioritizing keeping each other – and the communities we serve – safe.

🖇️A Day in the Life: AJ Jenkins

Employee: AJ Jenkins
Position: Field Engineer
Current Project: Flagler Beach Pier

Arlion Andrew Jenkins IV – or, as we call him, “AJ” – starts his mornings smelling the sweet ocean air and watching the sunrise from the Flagler Beach Pier project. But working on the beach comes with its own challenges. Strong coastal winds have the potential to create dangerous working conditions, and these areas tend to have more pedestrian traffic.

AJ’s safety tip: “When working on the beach, always stay alert for pedestrians in busy beach areas. Maintain clear, controlled work zones to keep everyone safe.”

AJ interned for V&G before becoming a full-time employee last year. His father, Andy, is also a long-term V&G employee.

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication on the Flagler Beach Pier project, AJ! Keep up the
good work!

As a trusted leader in heavy civil and marine construction, you can find Vecellio & Grogan employees on the road and over the water – in and around all sorts of work zones from WV to FL. But we know we need to stay safe while doing it.

Work zones can be dangerous places, especially so close to active roadways. Our V&G safety culture is committed to ZERO incidents and mitigating risks before they arise. These standards protect our people, projects, and progress.

This National Work Zone Awareness Week, we join companies across the country to remember that Safe Actions Save Lives. 🚧👷‍♂️🦺

R.I.P. Old Flagler Beach Fishing Pier
It’s official! The demolition of the old pier is successfully completed – and we couldn’t be more proud of our team! Everything landed safely on the trestle without any major debris landing in the water, protecting our beautiful ocean and marine life.

With the temporary trestle bridge in place and first concrete production pile driven, we move on to constructing the new pier.

Our Spring College Career Fair Florida Tour was an absolute home run! We hit the road to meet the next generation of construction managers and engineers, and the results speak for themselves. We are thrilled to announce that our recruiting efforts resulted in 4 incredible new summer interns joining the V&G team!

Check out the highlights from our tour:
📍 St. Augustine Seawall Project: Following a successful Meet & Greet at University of North Florida on 1/29, we’ve secured an intern to help lead the way on this vital FDOT project.
📍University of West Florida: Our first-time appearance at UWF on 2/18 was a huge success! We have a new intern scheduled to start with us this May.
📍University of North Florida: The momentum continued on 3/3, where we met another standout candidate. We are currently finalizing the details for their summer internship!
📍 Westshore Flyover Bridge Project: On 3/10, we visited Florida Gulf Coast University and found a great addition to our team in Tampa.

A massive thank you to our dedicated team—Melissa Lee, Andy Jenkins, Jacob Parker, Laurie Simpson, and Luke Lynn—for representing V&G and mentoring the constructors of the future.
We can’t wait to see what these talented students achieve on-site this summer! 🛠️🚧

We are so proud to have been an instrumental part of this significant improvement project for the City of Jacksonville.

Opening the Stockton St. Bridge – part of the McCoys Creek Restoration Project – definitely had its challenges with complex sequencing, succinct coordination with utility and roadway subcontractors, and careful management of work within the creek corridor.

However, now that it is complete, it benefits the people of Jacksonville and the surrounding communities with significantly improved mobility. It also strengthens the environment and supports wildlife with enhanced stormwater conveyance.

It feels so good to watch this project come to life.

The North Causeway skyline looks a little different. Starting under the cover of darkness and working through sunrise, our dedicated crews safely and efficiently completed the final Span 1 deck placement for FDOT’s North Causeway Bridge.

🔸Scale: 280+ cubic yards of concrete
🔸Timeline: 8 continuous hours of precision pumping and finishing
🔸View: Work took place above the Intracoastal Waterway on this massive 4,000 LF high-rise bridge

With the wet-cure blankets now down, we are one step closer to connecting the community with a safer, higher, and more reliable crossing.

See those massive red and yellow cranes? One is a Kobelco 2750 and the other is a Manitowoc MLC 250 – with a lifting capacity of 275 TONS EACH! They just successfully arrived on the FDOT bridge project construction site in Martin County after a very careful and intentional mobilization.

Now that our cranes are here, we are ready to roll on this project. Pile driving and dredging are to begin in April.

New FDOT project awarded with a value just under $20M!

As if St. Johns County isn’t beautiful enough, we are thrilled to be part of a new $20M improvement project to replace the existing seawall along SR 5A from Bridge of Lions to Charlotte Street.

But that’s not all. We will also grade the site, replace sidewalks and existing signage, install pedestrian lighting, remove the existing event platform, and remove/reconstruct the pergola in North Gibbs Park.

We are scheduled to begin work in June.

Stay tuned for project updates & to watch this project come together!
