Sealing those cosmic leaks with simple weatherstripping can save you up to 15% on your monthly energy bill. Here is your step-by-step launch plan to secure the perimeter:

Detect the Leaks (The Fragrance Test): On a windy day, light an incense stick and slowly trace it around window frames and door edges. Wherever the smoke flickers or blows sideways, you’ve found an active air leak.

Prep the Docking Area: Clean the surface thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and a clean rag to remove old adhesive, dirt, and grease. Weatherstripping won't stick to a dusty surface, leading to premature peeling.

Choose Your Armor:

Find the Return Vents: Look for the large metal grille on your wall, ceiling, or directly on your furnace/air handler unit.

Check the Size: Unclip the vent cover, slide out the old filter, and note the dimensions printed on the frame (e.g., 16x25x1).

Watch the Airflow Arrows: When sliding in the new filter, make sure the arrows printed on the border point toward the blower unit/ductwork, not out toward the room.
