Microbial Insights, Inc. Environmental Remediation | Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion | Microbial Source Tracking

Microbial Insights (MI) is a biotechnology laboratory specializing in the development and application of cutting edge molecular biological tools (MBTs) and environmental molecular diagnostics (EMDs) to describe and quantify microbial communities. Environmental Remediation: CENSUS qPCR and QuantArray analyses to quantify bacteria and functional genes involved in contaminant biodegradation including

Dehalococcoides. Stable isotope probing (SIP) to conclusively determine whether biodegradation is occurring in situ. Microbial Induced Corrosion: DNA based molecular microbiological methods (MMM) for accurate and comprehensive quantification of microorganisms responsible for MIC such as sulfate reducing bacteria and methanogens. Microbial Source Tracking: Quantify host associated biomarkers such as HF183 to identify sources of fecal pollution. MI has 23 years of experience in MBTs and EMDs and we recognize that state-of-the-art technologies must be coupled with personalized customer service. We are committed to serving our clients at each step in the process from assay selection through data interpretation. Specialties

QuantArray® is a high throughput qPCR platform proprietary to Microbial Insights, and these packages of qPCR assays are curated to provide the evidence you need to make data-driven decisions on diverse projects. Meet the QuantArray® suites below!

🧼 QuantArray®-Chlor: Designed to capture multiple biodegradation pathways for chlorinated solvents, such reductive dechlorination (including Dehalococcoides and functional genes), aerobic co-metabolism, and competing processes.

⛽QuantArray®-Petro: Detect and quantify functional genes associated with aerobic and anaerobic biodegradation of BTEX, diesel products, alkanes, and other petroleum hydrocarbons.

📉QuantArray®-NSZD: Characterize the subsurface microbial community contributing to NAPL degradation through natural source zone depletion.

♻️QuantArray®-BGC: Understand diverse biogeochemical processes with this versatile analysis, with applications in mining, remediation, heavy metal immobilization, and beyond.

🦺QuantArray®-MIC: Detect and quantify functional genes and taxonomic groups that contribute to microbiologically influenced corrosion.

🌱QuantArray®-Ag: Designed to capture a diverse set of microorganisms associated with soil health.

Question: What’s the difference between CENSUS®-qPCR and QuantArray®?

Answer: Both are powerful qPCR-based tools for understanding site microbiology (with the same accuracy and limits of detection!) but they can be used for different purposes.

🎯CENSUS® is ideal for targeted monitoring, providing precise quantification of a specific group of microbes or a functional gene when a single pathway is all that’s needed.
🌎QuantArray® still delivers the same precise quantification but for a broader, systems level view, simultaneously quantifying dozens of genes to capture multiple processes and pathways in a single analysis.

Used together, they offer a complementary strategy: QuantArray® for comprehensive site characterization, followed by CENSUS® for focused, ongoing performance monitoring.

Register now for MI’s monthly Insights in Practice webinar! This June 18th, we are joined by REGENESIS’s VP of Research and Development Dr. Paul Erickson and Antea Group’s Senior Consultant Jack Sheldon, presenting: Evidence Based Rapid CVOC Remediation with Proof: Linking Microbial, Geochemical, and Analytical Data.

This webinar will present data from an Antea Group complex client site where multiple REGENESIS technologies (sorption, abiotic reduction, and biostimulation) were combined to address chlorinated solvents. This case study showcases that combining innovation, robust data collection, and management of logistical challenges can achieve a successful outcome. Link to register in the comments below!

Working on a site in a remote location and can't ship your sample to the lab quickly?

Preserve what matters - Before samples even leave the field.

What happens in the field determines the quality of your molecular data.
Bio-Extract® Kits from Microbial Insights are designed to help preserve nucleic acids at the point of collection—minimizing degradation and bias before analysis ever begins.

✅Built for environmental field conditions
✅Helps stabilize microbial DNA during transport
✅Confidence from sampling to qPCR

👉Learn more about Bio-Extract® kits. Because good data starts in the field.

This Memorial Day, we honor the soldiers who have given their lives to protect the American people and democracy. Though nothing can compare to that ultimate sacrifice, we hope that contributions by our industry to contaminated site clean up on fueling, munitions, and aviation stations benefit the environmental and public health of the service members stationed there. Stewardship of military land protects our service members just as they protect us.
