Media blasting only for stain prep? Think again—it improves longevity more than you'd expect.

Media blasting helps to remove cosmetic damage on the logs—such as unevenness, hail damage, or ivy or moss growth. Blasting with corn cob, like we do, also helps to absorb any excess grease or dirt present on the logs.

This also means that when we blast your home, it will not need to be cleaned AND stripped, just media blasted. No log wash just yet!

Obviously, we don't recommend media blasting your home just for the heck of it. But when refinishing the exterior of your home comes into play, media blasting plays a part in making your home look like new. These tips are crucial for a log home owner, especially as we head into the colder months where less and less repairs can be done. Whether you apply your own chinking or another company does, we recommend keeping this information in mind during the next few months. 🏡🍂⛅

Should cracked chinking or caulking be repaired before winter?

Loose, cracked, or separated sealant can allow cold air and water into your logs and the interior of your log home. It’s best to get your repairs done before the weather changes, since sealants shouldn’t be applied when temperatures are 40°F or below.

Cold weather application has its risks. If applied in freezing temperatures, the sealant can trap moisture and fail due to cracking, shrinkage, or adhesion failure. It also prohibits the sealant from curing. To get on our schedule for winter work, call us at (828) 585-7472
