Here's another quick-tip for the fall maintenance as a log home owner:
Clear fallen leaves, dried-up plants, and old brush around your home! 🧹🍃
Keeping around plant debris in any form, whether dried-up during the fall and winter months, or brand new growth like ivy or out of control bushes, can be risky. Logs need to be away from moisture, like the dampness that plant debris can harbor over time.
When logs are exposed to moisture and have no way to expel it, like being surrounded and trapped by plant growth, this becomes a problem for your home's exterior. This can lead to many different, serious and expensive problems down the road, like water damage, mold, mildew, log rot, and insect/pest damage.
Instead of spring cleaning later, do some fall cleaning now to prevent those problems before they would get worse in the colder months. ⛅🍂🍁
