This event was held for local high school students and displayed the amazing careers available to women in the electric industry.

Following the recent passing of longtime Board President and Caldwell District Director Jeff Joines, Blue Ridge Energy Board Director David Eggers has decided to postpone his previously announced retirement from the Board. It is with great sadness that Blue Ridge Energy announces the passing of the electric cooperative’s President of the Board of Directors, Jeff Joines.

Joines joined the Board of Directors in 1998, and leaves behind a distinguished legacy that is highlighted by his commitment to service for the cooperative, its members, and the employees. Blue Ridge Energy invites community and cooperative members to join the cooperative in sending condolences and prayers to his wife, Rita Joines, and his family. Jeff will be missed at Blue Ridge Energy, but his legacy has shaped the successes of the cooperative since 1998, and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Crews responded to outages throughout the night in brutal weather. During most storms, downed trees are a common sight but rarely are the conditions ripe for this: galloping transmission lines. A little bit of weight from winter weather combined with strong winds caused the phenomenon, which can lead to outages on its own as lines slap together.
