The I-64 Gap Segment A Widening project completed the final temporary traffic shift on eastbound I-64 on September 2nd, 2026. This milestone shifted traffic onto the recently completed median lanes and allows the final stage of work to reconstruct the outside shoulders for all 11 miles of both eastbound and westbound I-64. Completion is scheduled for Summer 2027.

Yesterday, the Fairfax County Parkway Southern Segment Project team opened the 3rd lane on northbound Route 123 between Chapel Road and Fairfax County Parkway, achieving completion of the Project's Unique Milestone #2 four days early. This provides immediate congestion relief for travelers and commuters. Congrats to the team for a job well done!

Major traffic shift on the Route 1 and I-95 Improvements at Exit 126 Project in Fredericksburg, VA.

Shirley's crews have been working over the last 10 months to complete Stage 1 work on Route 1 including relocation of multiple utilities, two jack and bores, 1,600 LF of 12" waterline, widening of both northbound and southbound Route 1 to the outside lanes for approximately 1/2 mile, two new signals, new BPPS barrier wall at the I-95 bridge piers, and ramp modifications. Completion of Stage 1 allows the final major stage of work to commence in the median of Route 1.

The traffic shift for this major milestone was successfully completed the night of August 17, 2026, and the project is on schedule for Substantial Completion in June 2027.

At the Western Area Infrastructure Improvements Design-Build Project in Chesterfield, County, Shirley crews opened the North-South Collector Road "John Thomas Way" to traffic on Friday, August 7, 2026. The team celebrated with a cookout on August 14. This was the second of three interim milestones on the project which is on track for final completion in the Summer of 2027.

Shirley's I-64 GAP Segment B Widening Project has reached a significant milestone by shifting both eastbound and westbound I-64 traffic, for a total of 17 miles, to the outside strengthened shoulder. This allows full access to the median for construction of an additional lane in each direction. At the same time, crews completed the planned mill and overlay of 34 lane miles of existing roadway to enhance public safety and reduce maintenance over the next two years of construction.
