Let me give you some much-needed advice: these Facebook advertisers that are telling you they don't have to come out to your home to give you a proper estimate on HVAC are full of it, for several reasons:
1) No 2 homes are exactly alike. There are so many variables to consider. Have you recently added insulation? How old are your windows, even what direction your house faces and how well are you shaded?
2)There are multiple system options. For instance, Trane alone makes several different models of air conditioners, furnaces, and heat pumps, each with different efficiencies, features, and capacities. Some companies, like ourselves, offer more than one brand to maximize options for our clients.
3) There are so many variables that exist in preparing estimates. Your estimator, if he or she is doing a good job, is taking multiple measurements, and examining perhaps dozens of things to make sure you get exactly what you want and need at a price point you can afford.
4) You might want or need accessories, such as an energy recovery ventilator (if your home is too tight or you have mold issues), a whole-house humidifier, or a super-efficient air filtration system. Your estimator can walk you through the best options.
To sum it up, these companies that say they can give you an estimate over the phone are using cookbook pricing, and believe me, they figure Murphy's Law in every bid. You won't be getting a deal.
