The historic Cottle Hotel in downtown Paducah is coming back to life!
After sitting vacant for many years, renovation work is now officially underway on one of the most iconic buildings in Cottle County. The project aims to carefully restore and reinvent the nearly century-old hotel into a premier boutique destination that honors the rich history of the Texas plains while creating a new centerpiece for the future of downtown Paducah.
The extensive renovation is expected to take approximately two years, with completion currently projected for the spring of 2028.
When completed, the fully renovated three-story hotel will feature 25 boutique guest rooms, including a combination of overnight accommodations and extended-stay suites complete with kitchens. The vision for the property is to create a true West Texas experience blending historic character, ranching heritage, and modern luxury into one unforgettable destination.
One of the most unique features of the project will be “George’s,” a full-scale basement bar and cigar lounge named after George Washington Cottle, the namesake of Cottle County and a defender who died fighting at the Alamo. The space is being designed to capture the spirit of the Old West while offering a high-end gathering place unlike anything else in the region.
Throughout the hotel, guests will experience the story of Cottle County and the surrounding plains through carefully curated historical elements celebrating more than 100 years of local ranching, cowboy, Native American, and frontier history. From the architecture and décor to the artwork and displays, the project is intended to preserve and showcase the unique identity of this part of Texas.
Plans for the development also include a first-floor event venue designed for weddings, receptions, community gatherings, and special events, creating a new destination space for both residents and visitors. In addition, discussions are currently underway with a boutique clothing retailer to open a storefront on the corner of the first floor, further contributing to the revitalization of downtown commerce.
Developers say the goal is not simply to renovate a building, but to help spark new energy and investment throughout downtown Paducah.
“This project is about preserving history while building something people can be proud of for generations to come,” ownership said. “The Cottle Hotel has always been part of the story of Paducah. We want to honor that history while creating a place that brings people together again.”
Once complete, the Cottle Hotel is expected to become the flagship property of downtown Paducah a destination that reflects the grit, history, and enduring spirit of the Texas plains.
