Welcome to Penick Organics! We are a family-owned soil and mulch manufacturer based in Macon, Mississippi. We’re now in our second generation of serving home gardeners, professional growers, landscapers, and flower farmers in the deep-South—specifically, Mississippi and Alabama USDA Zones 8-9.

We love this picture of our founder, Gene Penick, with his daughter, Gina Penick McLean—and Lily! Dachshunds became our mascot because they love to dig (just like us!). And, because our products are always safe for kids and pets.

We only use LOCAL raw materials that nourish and build your soil, making it healthier over time. That’s important to us because so many products bring quick results, yet eventually leave your soil depleted and increasingly dependent on synthetic fertilizers.

If that resonates with you, follow along! We’re here to talk about dirt, trade tips, and share laughs about the realities of growing plants in this special place we call home.

You can find Penick Organics products, including our Digger’s Delight line, in bags or bulk at LOCAL nurseries (no big-box stores!) in Mississippi and Alabama.

Dig it? It’s GROW time! 🌱💕

To all the dirt-loving dads out there: Your plants think you’re a hero—and so do we!
🌱Growing up, summer afternoons would sometimes find me following my granddad through the screen porch into the blazing Mississippi heat to take kitchen scraps to the backyard compost pile—and check on tomatoes ripening slowly in their wire cages. I didn’t know then how fondly, or how often, I would remember those walks, but they’re one reason I love to grow tomatoes. And the smell of their leaves brings me back every time.🍅
🌱Is there a certain plant that reminds you of a father, grandfather, or father figure who shared their garden with you?

Summer stress is real—for plants! Pamper your shrubs, trees, and beds with a cooling layer of our Flower & Garden Mulch. Prioritizing mulch and water during summer’s hottest days makes a world of difference for deep-South Zone 8 & Zone 9 plants.

Beautiful!! 💕👀
