Most people never see the design challenges that happen before construction begins.

For this project, local zoning setbacks would have forced the addition to step inward, making it obvious where the original home ended and the new space began. By securing a variance, we were able to keep the addition aligned with the existing home, creating a seamless look and a more open indoor-outdoor living space built for gathering.

Great architecture starts with solving problems before construction even begins.

The goal wasn't a bigger house. It was a better way to live.

When these homeowners came to us, they wanted a home that felt connected—to the backyard, to family, and to the way they spend their summers at the Jersey Shore.

Family gatherings. Summer evenings. Time spent outdoors.

That changed the way we approached the design.
Instead of treating the porch, pool, and backyard as separate elements, we designed them as extensions of the home itself. The interior living spaces open naturally to the backyard.

A covered porch creates an outdoor room – shaded from the hot sun & designed for long conversations and shared meals.

The pool sits within easy reach of it all, so everyone can stay connected, even as activities change throughout the day.

Because the best outdoor spaces aren't just beautiful. They're comfortable, functional, and easy to enjoy from morning coffee to late summer evenings.

For this historic home, the goal wasn't simply to create more space. It was to keep everything the owners already loved while designing a home that supports the way they live today.

That meant 1) understanding how the clients want to live and 2) studying the welcoming front porch, window placement, trim details, proportions, rooflines, and architectural character—so the addition would feel like it had always belonged. "
