Project Update | St. Luke's Episcopal Church

The rebuild of St. Luke's Episcopal Church continues to move forward, and the progress on site this week is a real reflection of how far this project has come. Exterior sheathing is complete, and the team is currently working through waterproofing before exterior brick installation begins. Inside the church, brick is already going up alongside the MEP rough-in of electrical and ductwork. Watching the interior and exterior come together at the same time is one of those moments in construction where the vision really starts to feel real. Every brick laid and every system installed brings St. Luke's one step closer to the day its congregation walks back through the doors of a fully restored home. We are honored to be part of that journey and grateful for the trust this community has placed in our team. More updates to come as the rebuild continues to take shape.

Project Spotlight: Globalstar Headquarters | Completed in 2018

DonahueFavret Contractors was selected to construct this state-of the-art 66,000 SF corporate headquarters for Globalstar Technologies based on GCs and Fee along with a client interview. Once selected, our Preconstruction department immediately began working with the architect and engineers on selecting exterior skin systems, MEP systems and site analysis all while constantly monitoring the overall construction budget. Our team was released to start site work and clearing on an early release package while the design progressed. This project utilized BIM coordination for the entire Preconstruction efforts including all MEP systems, curtainwall, structural steel and modular walls. Once the design was complete, our team, which had been in nearly all of the Preconstruction meetings, made a seamless integration into the construction phase. The project consisted of deep foundations, structural steel structure, curtain-wall glazing system, metal panels, high end interior finishes and interior modular walls. Due to the high level BIM coordination, the project came together with minimal questions or challenges.

Project Spotlight: Thibodaux Regional Health System 3rd Floor Buildout

When COVID-19 hit South Louisiana, Thibodaux Regional Health System needed 22,000 SF of shell space converted into a fully operational patient care floor in 50 days. Thirty days in, the scope changed entirely. Treatment rooms needed to become Critical Care Unit rooms, requiring ceilings to come down, med gas lines to be upsized, and full CCU infrastructure to be installed, all while an active COVID unit operated next door. Our ICRA-certified team developed a specialized infection control plan, ran two shifts seven days a week, and prefabricated materials offsite to keep the site safe and moving. The result: substantial completion in just 76 days.

Physically connecting a new structure to an existing medical facility presents a major challenge. Hospitals are often built over several decades, which means that the existing structure may be a patchwork of different construction materials, techniques, and sometimes design codes. The addition for Slidell Memorial Hospital overcame this same challenge. Demolition involved creating an opening on the existing facility where the new structure would tie-in. To protect the existing space from the open-air environment, a unique closed cell spray foam insulated barrier was applied to the opening, waterproofing the space until the new addition's structure was constructed and dried in.

Back in late 2024 we discussed the myriad of challenges facing hospital additions and emergency department expansions. These projects often require new construction to tie into aging infrastructure, active utilities, occupied clinical areas, and public circulation paths without disrupting care. For the Thibodaux Regional Operating Room Expansion, our team added four hybrid operating rooms, a sterile corridor, new supply areas, rooftop mechanical systems, chillers, and air handling units – all while the existing hospital remained operational. The work took place directly beside active operating rooms, labor and delivery, PACU, and cath lab areas, requiring strict infection control, utility coordination, quiet hours, vibration control, and daily communication with hospital staff.

Project Spotlight: Covington Trace ER

During the height of COVID-19, the teams planning Covington Trace Emergency Department on the Northshore faced a question that hadn't been asked quite the same way before: how do you design an emergency room that keeps patients safe before they ever walk through the front door?

The answer was built into the building. Patient rooms at Covington Trace feature code-accessible exterior doors, allowing patients to go directly from the parking lot to their assigned examination room without passing through the lobby. What began as a pandemic response became a permanent feature that improves the patient experience for everyone who walks through those doors. Add in a fast-tracked schedule, more than 10 patient rooms, and a full imaging suite including MRI, CT, and X-ray, and you have a facility the Northshore community is better off for having.

Safety is more than a checklist. It is a commitment we make to each other every day.

To wrap up National Safety Week, the DonahueFavret team came together once again for training, hands-on learning, and a reminder of what matters most: sending everyone home safely at the end of the day.

Thank you to our team members, partners, and safety leaders who continue to build a culture where preparation, accountability, and care come first.
