🔥👃 What's That Smell?
If you're turning your furnace on for the first time in months, you might notice a strange smell coming from the vents. Don't panic—some smells are perfectly normal, while others deserve attention.
🔥 Burning dust smell: Usually normal during the first startup of the season. Dust that collected over the summer is simply burning off, and the odor should disappear fairly quickly.
⚡ Electrical or burning plastic smell: Not something to ignore. Shut the system down and have it checked.
🥚 Rotten egg or sulfur smell: If you have natural gas, leave the home and contact your gas provider or emergency services from a safe location.
🌫️ Musty smell: Could point to moisture, a dirty filter, or something else affecting your system or ductwork.
The bottom line? You know what “normal” smells like in your home. If something doesn't seem right or an odor sticks around, it's worth having it checked. 🔧👍
