With business being slow, I've started pouring some of my extra time into a project with some personal meaning: a full transcription of "Too Good Too Bad" from Cowboy Bebop; it's one of many fantastic jazz pieces written for this classic anime by the legendary Yoko Kanno. https://youtu.be/6q7mtr4cWyo?si=kJlOdGJqQuJspgX3
Back when I was at Kent State (around 12 years ago), I wrote a near-complete transcription, but before I could reach out to classmates for help transcribing the drum part (the one part in the score I don't yet have the know-how for) the hard drive of my laptop failed, and I didn't keep external backups. After that I was completely dispirited. I gave up on transcription/arrangement, and nearly gave up on musicianship both as a craft and as a hobby.
A long time passed and I went back to school and obtained a degree in Music Production & Engineering out of a desire to pick up where I left off, but still I continued to operate out of that place of discouragement and self-doubt. I started so many projects that went unfinished and never truly flourished. But then I started teaching at Loud and Clear Music School last year - my students like quite a variety of music, and my goal of encouraging and informing their growth as musicians has led me back to transcription (just one of many skills I'm finally learning to embrace).
I will be making a number of my Guitar and Piano solo transcriptions available for free download soon, so keep an eye out! Once I'm finished transcribing "Too Good Too Bad", I'll be sharing that for free too!
In the mean time, if anybody has interest in transcription services (or if you know somebody who would) I've gotcha covered! Only thing I can't transcribe (yet) is percussion, but that'll come in due time.
Thanks to everyone who's followed, and extra thanks to those who share!
