At North Star Fabrication, our plumbing capabilities go beyond traditional pipe fabrication.

From our Champlin facility, our team supports projects with multi-trade rack assemblies, in-wall plumbing assemblies, welding, and light fabrication bringing the necessary parts together before they ever reach the jobsite.

By assembling and coordinating these systems in a controlled shop environment, we help reduce field installation time, minimize material handling, and keep projects moving efficiently.

Welcome back to From the Shop Floor.

In partnership with Synergy Med Solutions, we’re fabricating modular operating and procedure rooms for hospitals—complete with framed openings, medical gas components, conduit and electrical panels.

Each room is assembled and inspected in our shop, then broken into panels, shipped and reassembled on-site. It’s a smarter approach that reduces field labor and helps healthcare projects stay on schedule.

Since joining Horwitz in 2015, Steve has helped grow fabrication from a one-person support function into a dedicated business with more than 30 employees. Today, he leads our team from design coordination through production—always looking for smarter ways to work, stronger ways to collaborate and new ways to solve customers’ challenges.

With our new ArcDroid, we can automate the layout and plasma cutting of custom holes and shapes from carbon and stainless steel plate.

Its touchscreen interface allows our team to create and save custom shapes for precise, repeatable cuts. Once the setup is complete, the ArcDroid can cut multiple parts autonomously while our skilled tradespeople focus on other work. The result is greater consistency, increased shop productivity and nearly 50% labor savings compared to manual layout and cutting—all helping us deliver smarter, more efficient fabrication solutions for our customers.

After earning a degree in psychology, Haley realized she wanted a career that was more hands-on. She found it in the skilled trades.

Today, Haley is a plumbing apprentice at North Star Fabrication, where she has earned her 2G TIG welding certification and continues building her skills, confidence and career.

One great project. Two well-deserved awards.

Following its recent Minnesota Real Estate Journal recognition, the University of Minnesota’s Fraser Hall Chemistry Undergraduate Teaching Facility has been named one of Finance & Commerce’s Top Projects of 2025!

North Star Fabrication is proud to have played a behind-the-scenes role in its success, fabricating complete mechanical rooms, plumbing groups, sheet metal assemblies, acid waste systems and multi-trade racks—delivering installation-ready components that helped improve quality, coordination and efficiency in the field.
