A renovation or tenant build-out changes more than the floor plan.
A new wall can block a strobe’s light from part of a room, or cut a space off from the speaker that used to cover it. A smoke detector that sat in the middle of an open area can end up in a corner, or in the wrong room. And a change in how a space is used, like turning storage into a break room, can change what type of detector belongs there.
A coverage gap like that doesn’t show up as a trouble signal. The panel can read normal while part of the space goes uncovered, until someone checks the layout against the code.
The fix starts before construction does. When the fire alarm design is updated alongside the renovation plans, device coverage is checked against the new layout, and we work with the fire marshal on approvals as part of the project.
