Fifth graders from Smith STEM Academy-Victoria ISD recently had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a plant process operator during a hands-on learning day with Formosa Plastics.

Students learned from Training & Development Manager Shawn Wehmeyer, Training Coordinator Patrick Muse, and Victoria College instructors Lawrence Wick and Joe Hernandez as they explored what it takes to keep a manufacturing site running safely and efficiently. Through interactive activities and simulations, students gained firsthand experience in safety, teamwork, technology, and daily plant operations.

Experiences like these help connect classroom learning to real-world career opportunities and give students a better understanding of the industries that support our local communities.

A Smith STEM Academy representative shared, ā€œWe are thankful for community partners like Formosa Plastics who continue investing in our students and providing meaningful real-world learning experiences that inspire future careers.ā€

Formosa Plastics is proud to support educational partnerships that help inspire and prepare the next generation. šŸ‘

Last week, Formosa was proud to support students and future industry professionals as a sponsor of the North American Process Technology Alliance (NAPTA) National Troubleshooting Competition at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas.

After approximately 30 teams competed in qualifying rounds, the top 12 college teams from across North America advanced to compete using hands-on process technology and DCS troubleshooting skills. More than 40 students traveled from colleges in Alaska, North Dakota, Illinois, Oklahoma and Texas to participate in the event.

Formosa Recruiters Mariah Munoz and Mia Edwards conducted mock interviews and connected with potential future operators, while Training Instructors Tim Smith and Tim Fowler served as judges and helped organize the competition.

Training & Development Manager Shawn Wehmeyer, who also serves as a director for NAPTA, delivered a safety presentation on Normalization of Deviance, participated in mock interviews and served as the closing speaker for the event while highlighting Formosa and the products manufactured in Point Comfort, Texas.

Congratulations to Victoria College for earning 2nd place in this year’s competition!

Competition Winners:

Our Training & Development team closed out April by participating in the 6th Annual Pick Up Point Comfort Challenge.

Despite rainy weather, the team exceeded its goal of collecting 1,000 pieces of litter, removing more than 1,500 pieces from the community.

This effort reflects our commitment to extending good housekeeping practices beyond our operations and into the communities we serve.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a difference. šŸ¤—

Earlier this month, our team came together to support coastal cleanup efforts along the Texas coast.

More than 20 employees, interns, and their families participated in the Causeway Beach Cleanup. The group set a goal to collect 1,000 pieces of litter—and exceeded it, removing over 1,400 pieces and filling 55 bags of debris along the causeway between Port Lavaca and Point Comfort.

One of the most meaningful moments came at the end of the cleanup, when a passerby stopped to thank the group for helping keep the community clean.

Thank you to everyone involved!

As part of Earth Day, we were proud to support Keep Victoria Beautiful’s Second Annual Picnic at Texas A&M–Victoria.

AERC scientist Curtis Short connected with attendees throughout the event, sharing insights on pollinators, reforestation, and the Formosa-Tejano wetlands. Guests also took home native plants and trees, encouraging hands-on participation in improving the environment.

Nearly 200 community members attended, many leaving inspired—and with plants in hand.

ā€œCurtis was the highlight of the evening for so many of our guests. So many happy people were carrying out plants and trees,ā€ said Executive Director Meridith Byrd.

We’re proud to support programs that make a lasting impact in our communities.

Last week, we opened our doors for Bring Your Child to Work Day at Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A., and the kids brought plenty of smiles and energy.

They got a behind-the-scenes look at what their parents do, learned about Formosa, made slime and took part in mock interviews.

Between learning, laughing and lunch together, it was a fun day filled with new experiences.

A big thank you to our Corporate Human Resources team for putting together such a great event. šŸ¤—
