Flashback Friday - June 1953:

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s HJ Eppel & Co., Inc. had a considerable workload excavating new ditches all around Central Illinois. By the 1950s many of the previously constructed ditches were in need of dredging and deepening; this Eppel Northwest Model 25 and Operator spent the summer in northern McLean County doing just that!

Digging Holes!

HJ Eppel & Co., Inc. has been busy moving nearly 40,000 cubic yards of dirt on the County Highway 12 Reconstruction Project in Hudson. The new road will feature improved drainage, improved visibility for drivers, and an all around improved profile for safer driving, all on top of a much more robust highway for heavy loads! Normal Community High School Resurfacing:

It's been a challenging June for construction in Central Illinois this year; however, this HJ Eppel & Co., Inc. crew was able to complete the resurfacing of all the Normal Community High School parking lots on campus! We appreciate the opportunity to provide another great project for Bloomington-Normal!

Although it was an extremely wet week, this HJ Eppel & Co., Inc. pipe crew was able to finish up the nearly 3,000 feet of storm drain that is part of the Hudson West Reconstruction Project. Those in the field did an admirable job dealing with the rain and weather across the company last week to keep projects moving forward!

We are underway at Dwight High School. This work includes removing the existing track, regrading to bring the track into spec, adding a chute at the north end of the track, and reconstructing field event areas!

Construction is underway at the track. Timeline to completion is before football season in August. As a reminder the track and areas around it are closed until the work is finished. Thank you

School's Out!

This HJ Eppel & Co., Inc. asphalt crew spent last week resurfacing several lots at Illinois State University! This shot was taken outside of Wilkins Hall and Redbird Arena! GO BIRDS!

Flashback Friday - 1974

HJ Eppel & Co., Inc. pours curb along Torrance Avenue in Pontiac in the summer of 1974. Long before the company had the self propelled Gomaco slip formers we utilized today, crews would use a machine called a Curbmaster. The machines were built by Curbmaster of America and were instrumental in advancing the slipform technology we use today. The Curbmaster still required a considerable amount of work to use but it did improve production and quality. HJ Eppel & Co., Inc. put our first Curbmaster into use in 1964.

This HJ Eppel & Co., Inc. crew is taking advantage of a break in the rain to get a set of triple culverts across the road at the Hudson West Project. We're all looking forward to a little more sunshine in May!

Please join us in wishing a very Happy 40th Birthday to the man behind this (hijacked) page and the 4th generation of our company!

Andy has spent the last four decades along side his dad and grandfather helping to continue the legacy started by his great-grandfather. And yes that is a photo of a photo because he was born in the 1900s!!!

Cheers to another year of growth, safety and building something that lasts!
