Important Update for New York State Residents
It’s official — starting January 2026, any new construction in New York State will no longer be allowed to use fuel oil, propane, or natural gas as a heating source. This also applies to appliances such as dryers, fireplaces, and stoves.
While not law yet, the original proposal also mentioned that beginning in 2029, any appliance replacements — such as hot water heaters, furnaces, stoves, and dryers — may be required to be switched to electric. THIS MEANS EVEN IF YOUR HOME IS OLDER YOU WILL BE FORCED TO SWITCH TO ELECTRIC HEAT
This is important to understand as we move through this transition. We encourage you to reach out to your local congressman and make your voice heard on these changes.
That said, Bigelows Energy has your back. We will continue to provide the best service possible in every way we can, and we’ll keep you updated on the latest developments.
