HGA’s Government Services Senior Grant Manager, Hillary Sotello, recently visited her daughter’s third-grade class to introduce students to disaster recovery and the importance of resilient infrastructure.

Hillary shared what it’s like to work as a consultant helping communities manage grant funding so they can rebuild and recover after natural disasters. To make resiliency relatable, she used the classic story of The Three Little Pigs to show why stronger, smarter construction matters when preparing for future storms.

Students also explored why hurricanes impact communities differently based on elevation, population density, and infrastructure. One standout moment was learning how essential infrastructure is in everyday life—especially the surprising realization of how quickly (or not) toilets can flush depending on system design.

Another key takeaway was understanding that grant funding must be used correctly or it may need to be repaid—sparking plenty of curious questions and imaginative “what if” discussions.

We’re proud to see our team sharing knowledge and helping inspire the next generation to understand the real-world importance of disaster recovery and grant management in building resilient communities.

HGA was proud to participate in the 34th Annual Dan Ewing Memorial Golf Tournament at Wildcat Golf Club, an outstanding event that brought together sponsors, players, and supporters for a great day of golf while raising funds for two meaningful organizations—Bridging for Tomorrow and Paws For Heroes.

The tournament continues to honor the legacy of Dan Ewing while making a positive impact in the community through charitable giving and support. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of this special event and to join others in supporting causes that make a difference in the lives of veterans, families, and those in need.

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and participants who helped make this year's tournament a success.

Hurricane Season Is Here: Preparedness Still Matters

June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through November 30. For communities along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, this time of year brings changing forecasts, increased monitoring, and a renewed focus on readiness.

While NOAA is forecasting a below-normal Atlantic hurricane season, preparedness remains essential. It only takes one storm to disrupt communities, infrastructure, businesses, and public services.

At HGA, our Government Services team helps communities plan, prepare, respond, and rebuild. From grant administration to technical services and program management, we work alongside our partners to strengthen infrastructure and housing and improve response capabilities.

As the season begins, now is the time for communities, businesses, and government agencies to review plans, assess risks, and ensure they are ready for whatever the months ahead may bring.

Preparedness is essential to long-term resilience.

The HGA Ruston Engineering team recently welcomed students from Choudrant High School for a job shadowing experience focused on careers in engineering and technical services.

Students had the opportunity to learn more about the engineering industry, explore real-world projects, and gain insight into the different career paths available within the field. Events like these help connect the next generation with hands-on learning experiences and highlight the importance of STEM education and workforce development.

HGA appreciates the opportunity to share our industry knowledge and encourage future engineers as they begin exploring their career interests.
