Pioneer Material Inc. was founded in St. Joseph, Missouri by Bud and Mary Ann Weaver in 1970.
Pioneer Material Inc. quickly became the go-to resource for the local construction industry in Northwest Missouri. Originally, Pioneer Material Inc. worked with sand and gravel to manufacture concrete blocks. Through the years, the company has evolved and adapted to carry products their customers need.
In the summer of 2009, before Bud passed away, more than 60 of his customers published a full-page ad in the St. Joseph New Press, thanking him for his many years of service. He was more than a trusted supplier. Bud was their problem solver and adviser on challenging projects. He was a pioneer and an innovator, and he is still missed by many.
A FAMILY BUSINESS
Pioneer Material Inc. is a family-owned business. Mary Ann Weaver is the President, and her son Phil Weaver, along with his son, Josh Weaver, are dedicated to their customers, and determined to keep Bud's legacy alive, and keep the tradition of customer service as a top priority.
The history of the business is rooted in resilience.
Pioneer Material Inc. has survived three floods because of the leadership and perseverance of the Weaver family. A flash flood in 1984 forced the family to move the business to a new location. The Missouri River flood of 1993 devastated their operations at the new riverfront location. Both times, they rebounded and moved forward to continue providing products to their customers.
In 2011, when the Missouri River flooded once again in the area, the Weaver family worked to keep the business going, even though their building was under water. The family and the employees used canoes and rafts to float pallets of materials from the building to higher ground to save what they could. They temporarily set up shop out of Mary Ann’s barn and proved that they will do all they can to keep the business up and running, and to help their customers complete their projects and meet their deadlines.
