How often should you change your AC filter?
In Florida, more often than the package says.
Most 1-inch pleated filters claim 90 days on the box. That number assumes an average home. Pinellas County is not average. Between humidity, pollen seasons, sand from the beach, and pets, your filter clogs a lot faster.
Here's what we tell our customers:
1. Standard 1-inch pleated filter, change every 30 to 45 days during AC season
2. 4-inch media filter, change every 6 to 9 months
3. Pets or allergies in the home, check at 30 days and swap if it looks loaded
A clean filter is the cheapest preventive maintenance you can do. It protects the blower motor, keeps the evaporator coil clean, and trims your electric bill. Skipping it is how a $20 filter turns into a $400 service call in July.
Pop yours out today. If you cannot see light through it, swap it.
