To Our Florida Customers:

We know people are still rebuilding, still faced with big decisions on whether to keep their home or sell it, still getting all the pieces put back together.

During this time, keep yourself educated. Sadly, we keep getting customers who got scammed after the storms or thought they were getting a deal on their new AC system or repairs, only to have things go wrong with expensive headaches. We are being called out to fix the poor work of others and all of this is costing homeowners and business money they don’t have to spend twice.😣

So what to do?

✅Make sure who you call is licensed and insured. How? Check their credentials on SunBiz.org where their legal business needs to be registered. Then check their license with DBPR. Some try to pass off their business as being legit by using the license of another AC company they “borrow”. But this is not legal in Florida. If you are advertising you are an HVAC business- YOU need to be licensed.

✅ Get an estimate or invoice in writing. It is legally required to put your license number on contracts with your customers. This is the accountably needed to ensure the customer is getting the qualified contractor before they do business. And don’t let it be some chicken scatch on a napkin as a contract (oh yeah, we’ve seen that).

✅Getting your license requires you took the needed exam, you are purchasing the equipment you install legally and honestly, you have all the needed insurances for both the homeowner and contractor’s protection, and bottom line - it shows you are not cheating and lying to the customer.

The idea is to rebuild the awesome community of the Tampa Bay Area, not create more headaches over greed and dishonesty. Whatever contractor you use, empower yourself by making sure you get the legit ones who will give you the service you deserve! ☺️

Some real examples of service calls that come in to us:
“That box thingy in my closet is making noise”
“That outside piece isn’t working”
“I think I have a bad switch board”
“It’s time to add more Freon, I’m almost out again.”
“I’ve never cleaned my drainline, I dont even know how.”

Your HVAC system is a complex system that’s not always easy to understand. But all of those statements above 👆🏼can cost you money if you don’t understand how your unit is designed to work or how it should be maintained.

When calling in for a service call or your yearly maintenance, ask your service technician or installer all the questions you need to give you the understanding and confidence to know the HVAC you currently have or just purchased.

Our technicians are happy to train and educate all our customers to make sure you have a healthy, comfortable home.

For our Florida customers:

Whether you own a home or a business, we know last year storms created an insurance nightmare amongst many other issues. There are many customers that still ask us “Does it really make a difference if I hire someone to install my new AC system or ductwork or make major repairs that is not licensed and insured? It’s just so much cheaper to do so.”

Simple answer is yes. Please see attached documentation that is found online.

- People who do side work of AC installations and major repairs that are not licensed or insured in Florida are committing a crime that can result in jail time amd heafty fines.

They don’t provide insurance that is needed to PROTECT the customers, and they only make things harder for people in the industry who are doing things right.

Anyone who’s acting as an AC contractor in Florida, whether they work for another company or not, has to have a license number displayed and insurance to cover any damages. It’s that simple.

If your “guy” is asking you to pay him cash on a Saturday or odd hours for work that may seem questionable, you may want to do your research.

**AC side work only pads pockets of those who don’t mind being criminals. It leaves the customer vulnerable if something goes wrong.

Laws are in effect that can also charge homeowners or businesses and make them liable to criminal activity as well. This is a huge mess that some of our customers are finding themselves in.

It’s simply not worth it.

Do your research and get multiple quotes. If you are paying for something, you deserve it to be done right, and not to be taken advantage of!!!

Summer is half way through - so far no hurricanes! Phew! But keeping customers educated on new laws that apply to their home is vital to keeping the community on the path to continuing recovery and safer homes.

New bills were passed and put into affect on July 1st! We still have customers that are discovering damage from last year and it’s costly! Some are deciding to rebuild or purchase a newly built home.

Educate yourself to see what kind of warranty may apply if you choose to rebuild or buy and the legal requirements that any subcontractor needs to uphold too!

Making clear educated decisions will save you money and headaches when it comes to who you hire to get your home livable and safe!

“Does it really matter if I hire a licensed HVAC contractor to install my equipment?”

Yes.

First and foremost - if you have somebody installing your AC equipment on the side - it’s illegal.
The person who is doing the work for you either in a repair or an install is aware they are doing something illegal. It’s that simple.

Currently we have multiple customers who had installs performed by people who are not licensed. Because of that, there’s no warranty offered. What happens when something goes wrong and it’s not working? The homeowner is having to pay TWICE in order to have saved a few bucks at the beginning. They are upset and frustrated to say the least.

It’s not worth it. Hire a contractor that is licensed and insured - it protects you in the end. And just to back up this post - here is what is found on the internet about illegal HVAC work performed in Florida:

To our Florida customers:

A helpful reminder - extreme heat combined with moisture makes for expedited growth of bacteria in your drain line. Once a bacteria “plug” forms, it can prevent the condensation from draining which backs up into the line. Once that hits the safety switch, your AC will shut off to prevent water from overflowing into the pan and causing damage.

Did you thermostat go blank all of the sudden and your AC shut off? And was it right before a holiday weekend? 😜Try cleaning your drainline with a shop vac or garden hose to see if you can get the clog to move and get your AC running again - if that is the issue. Some of our customers have suffered with no AC for days when it was a simple fix they could do on their own. Check out our website for videos on how to perform this maintenace. sarahsair.com
