Some wedding gifts are exciting in the moment. Others become part of a family's story.

These custom silver-plated boxes were handcrafted for a client who will be giving them as wedding gifts. Designed to hold jewelry, letters, photographs, and keepsakes, they're the kind of pieces that remain meaningful long after the celebration ends.

The most memorable gifts aren't always the ones that make the biggest impression on the day itself. They're the ones people continue to use, display, and treasure for years to come.

At Biro & Sons, we're proud to create handcrafted pieces that become part of life's most important moments.

People think of trophies as finished objects, but they are not. They move, they get engraved, they get repaired, and they change hands over time.

We see them at different points in that life. Sometimes they just need cleaning, sometimes they need more serious restoration. Either way, the goal is to keep them usable and consistent with what they’ve always been.

There is a quiet kind of continuity in that work. You are not making something new, you are just helping it stay what it already is.

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we pause and remember those who gave their lives in service.

Their courage and sacrifice are not forgotten, and their memory continues to live on in the lives they touched.

We honor them this weekend and always.

When an event like the World Cup comes through a city, most people only see what happens on the field.

Our job is to make sure every trophy, ceremonial piece, and medal is ready to match the glory of the win and honor the athelete's hard work.

Sport is an awesome experience. The passion and grit of each player pulls at every one of our heart strings.

From America's Cup to the Wanamaker Trophy to the SCGA Women’s Amateur Championship Trophy to an honorary Triple Crown trophy, we love creating and restoring a piece that reflects an athlete's hard work and glory.

The America’s Cup is perhaps one of the most legendary trophies in all of the world.

It's history dates back to 1848 when Garrard & Co. designed and crafted it to give to the winners of the Royal Yacht Squadron's 1851 Annual Regatta. Over the years, the Cup (also known as the Auld Mug or the Queen's Cup) has been awarded to New York Yacht Club, Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, San Diego Yacht Club, Société Nautique de Genève, Golden Gate Yacht Club, and Royal Perth Yacht Club.

After the 2010 regatta, the winners brought the Cup into Biro & Sons for restoration and polishing. We carefully took the trophy apart, assessed, repaired, and cleaned each section, strengthened it where needed, and returned it to the winners better than ever.

With something like this, you are not trying to change it. You are trying to respect what it already is and make sure it holds together for the next chapter. It was an honor to have the Cup in our shop!

Trophies get handled a lot more than most people realize.

They’re lifted, flipped, dropped, shipped, engraved again and again. Over time, all that activity will start to show.

At Biro & Sons, we see them when they need repair or restoration. Sometimes it’s surface wear, sometimes it’s structural stress, sometimes it’s just years of polishing and handling catching up with them.

The goal is always the same. Keep the original piece intact and make sure the trophy shines as bright as the winner holding it.

Not all tarnish responds to a quick polish.

In San Francisco’s coastal climate, salt air and moisture can accelerate wear on silver, brass, and copper. Dullness, uneven color, or areas that no longer improve with routine care can be early signs that your pieces need more than surface cleaning.

Addressing these changes early helps prevent deeper wear and preserves the integrity of your metalwork over time.

Professional restoration can return pieces to their intended finish and provide the level of care needed for long-term protection.

When deeper care is needed, Biro & Sons helps assess and restore metalwork affected by coastal exposure.

Restaurants, hotels, and active homes put everyday metalwork to the test.

Constant handling, moisture, and cleaning products all take their toll, and in coastal environments, that wear happens even faster.

Maintaining items like silver serving pieces, brass fixtures, and copper accents is about more than appearance. It is about preserving quality, consistency, and performance over time.

With proper care, these materials can continue to look and function as intended, even in demanding environments.

Biro & Sons understands the conditions these pieces face and the level of care required to keep them performing at their best.

Protecting your silver, brass, and copper does not have to be complicated.

In coastal environments, a few simple habits can make a lasting difference:

• Gently wipe surfaces with a soft cloth to remove salt and moisture
• Use cleaners designed specifically for each material
• Avoid abrasive materials that can wear down finishes
• Keep items away from open windows and direct coastal airflow

Salt buildup is often invisible, but it continues to react over time. A consistent routine helps preserve the look and integrity of your metalwork.

When routine care is not enough, Biro & Sons restores and maintains pieces exposed to salt air and moisture.

Living near the coast has its advantages, but salt air can quietly take a toll on silver, brass, and copper.

Even indoors, fine salt particles settle on surfaces and, combined with moisture, accelerate tarnish and corrosion. Over time, heirlooms and decorative work can lose brightness, darken, or develop uneven color sooner than expected.

If your pieces are not looking the way they used to, it may not be age. It may be your environment.

Recognizing early changes is key to protecting and preserving what you have.

Biro & Sons helps restore and maintain metalwork exposed to coastal environments throughout San Francisco.
