A historic new chapter for Chi Epsilon. 🎉

Executive Director Charles Chadwell recently joined ASCE leaders at ASCE Headquarters to continue advancing Chi Epsilon’s integration and help establish a dedicated home for the Society’s historical collection.

This milestone will preserve Chi Epsilon’s 104-year legacy while opening the door to new opportunities for students, faculty advisors, alumni, and civil engineering professionals.

We are proud of the work taking shape and excited for what comes next.

Congratulations to Dr. Mike Riemer from UC Berkeley, recipient of one of our Chi Epsilon Faculty Advisor Awards!

Dr. Riemer has been a mentor, advocate, and steady anchor through his chapter's growth and transition — empowering student leaders while offering guidance on department coordination and professional development.

He helped refine the pledge process to keep it aligned with Chi Epsilon's Four Pillars, and has worked to strengthen alumni connections across generations of Berkeley civil engineers.

Thank you, Dr. Riemer, for your commitment to your students and to Chi Epsilon.

Congratulations to Missouri S&T's Mohammad Afsharmovahed, recipient of the James and Sharon Weinel Fellowship for AI-Driven Infrastructure Research!

He's building deep learning tools for drone and robotic inspection of bridges and civil infrastructure — work with real impact on public safety.

A Ph.D. student with a 3.9 GPA, Kummer Doctoral Fellow, published researcher, and U.S. DOT-funded investigator. He also mentors students and supports STEM outreach.

Summer is an excellent time for internships and career planning in anticipation of the upcoming school year! As Chi Epsilon students embark on hands-on industry immersion this summer, it's important to remember the ways their chapters equipped them for these first looks into their future professions.

Chapter 95 at Cal Poly Pomona hosted a career fair this past Spring, empowering their students to form industry connections and understand their options within the field. How will your chapter inspire this generation of Civil Engineers as they seek to gain new skills and professional experiences?

Congratulations to Dr. Joel Burken at Missouri S&T, recipient of one of our Chi Epsilon Faculty Advisor Awards!

Dr. Burken is a consistent presence at chapter meetings, connecting students with industry professionals and alumni, and guiding officers with practical advice and encouragement.

He also helped launch the "Dollar per Year" campaign — a creative initiative strengthening alumni engagement and chapter funding for the long haul.

Thank you, Dr. Burken, for your dedication to your students and to Chi Epsilon.
