He flew the IF800 TOMCAT. Then he told us what he really thought. 👀

From the aircraft itself to its mapping capabilities and real-world performance, this review puts the IF800 under the microscope.
Did it live up to expectations?

We’ve been doing this for a while.
How long? Well, the history speaks for itself...

In all seriousness, we’re coming up on a decade of moving fast, building boldly, and putting American-made drones into the hands of people doing important work. 🙌

Thousands of plots. Narrow measurement windows. Traits that shift before the human eye can see anything. 🌱

The Australian Plant Phenomics Network's University of Sydney node is flying hyperspectral, LiDAR, and thermal sensing on the IF1200 to capture objective, repeatable crop data at scale.

Their payloads include the GRYFN GOBI and CALVIS sensors and an ITRES microTABI640 cryo-cooled thermal line scanner. The node is now building a two-aircraft IF1200 capability to support co-aligned hyperspectral sensing and expand thermal phenotyping work.

"It's just a drone, who cares?"

The researchers in Australia spotting crop stress before there's any visible sign of it.
The utility crew in Alabama doing live line work without putting anyone in a bucket truck.
The team that pulled pilot rope across 800-foot spans over active rail instead of rigging it by hand.

They care.

Issue 7 of the IFT Quarterly is here. Not just a magazine. Proof.

10 minutes. 1 flight. 3 deliverables.
We mapped the Morro Estuary Natural Preserve with a Sony LR1.

Top to bottom: VARI vegetation index, RGB orthomosaic, digital surface model.
The DSM picks up every tidal channel and drainage cut in the marsh. The VARI layer separates healthy pickleweed from stressed and bare ground across the whole preserve.

A survey like this used to mean a crew, a full day, and a lot of walking through mud. Now it's one pilot, one flight, one battery.

Forty acres. No map. No markers. And graves nobody could see.

At Westview Cemetery in Knoxville, UTK Geography and Sustainability flew an IF1200 carrying a GeoCue TV515, which mapped 40 acres in a single 30-minute flight. Half of it was under dense forest canopy. LiDAR never picked up the headstones beneath the vegetation, but a one-centimeter elevation model exposed something subtler: depressions six feet long and two feet wide, right where graves should be.
