Kitchen Remodel Tip: Don’t Be Afraid to Mix Countertops.

Your kitchen countertops don’t all have to match.
In this Santa Cruz kitchen remodel, a dark stone island creates a striking contrast with the lighter countertops along the perimeter. The combination adds depth to the room while allowing the patterned backsplash, custom cabinetry, and brass details to stand out.

When planning a kitchen remodel, think about how you’ll use each surface, too. Durability, maintenance, and everyday function are just as important as appearance.

At Elite Construction, we help Santa Cruz County homeowners make these decisions as part of the remodeling process.

Coffee lovers, this one’s for you. ☕

If you’re planning a kitchen remodel, consider creating a dedicated space for your morning coffee.

This Santa Cruz kitchen features a built-in coffee bar with an espresso machine, prep sink, beverage refrigerator, open shelving, and plenty of storage for mugs, glasses, and supplies.

Having everything in one place keeps the main kitchen counters clear and makes those early mornings a little easier.

It’s also a great setup when entertaining. Guests can help themselves without crowding the main cooking area.

At Elite Construction, we help Santa Cruz County homeowners plan remodels that fit the way they live.

One of our favorite kitchen features isn’t actually inside the kitchen!

This pass-through window opens right onto the outdoor bar, making it easy to pass food and drinks outside without running back and forth through the house.

It’s a great feature for entertaining, especially here in Santa Cruz where we can enjoy our outdoor spaces so much of the year.

A little planning can make a kitchen work just as well for outdoor living as it does indoors.

When planning a kitchen remodel, it’s easy to get caught up in choosing countertops, cabinets, and fixtures. But don’t forget to think about how you use your kitchen.

Do you have enough room to prep food next to the sink?
Somewhere to put dirty dishes without taking over the counter?
Is the dishwasher close enough to make cleanup easy?

These little details can make a big difference in how well your kitchen works.

Mid-century modern, all the way down to the Fiesta Ware.

Bold color, warm wood, a statement light fixture and a kitchen designed to show off the homeowners’ collection.

A two-car garage doesn’t have to be just for cars.
We carved out space for entertaining, video games and family movie nights—all while leaving room for the homeowners’ collection of mountain bikes.

Turns out a garage can do a lot more than park cars. :)

It’s a small detail.

This mosaic tile border repeats through the living spaces, kitchen and bathrooms, creating a subtle connection from room to room.

Hard to believe these rooms started with emerald green carpet and wood paneling on the walls AND the ceiling.

We stripped everything back and gave the space a complete refresh, turning it into a bright home office and comfortable living area while working with the home’s existing rooflines and angles.

Sometimes a remodel is less about changing the footprint and more about seeing what the existing space could become.

This Westside Santa Cruz project started as a smaller kitchen remodel. Once demolition began, we uncovered age-related damage inside the walls that needed to be addressed.
The homeowners decided it was the right time to take the project further—gutting the house and giving the entire home a fresh start.
We’re in the final stretch now and can’t wait to share the finished result.
