Meet Sophia Lopez-Ramirez, one of our 2026 SNC STEM Scholarship winners! Growing up between a small city and village in Ohio, Sophia was fascinated at how infrastructure and opportunity influence quality of life and grew a love for learning how research and technology can improve city systems.

“Coming from a small rural school, attending a top university with outstanding financial support is incredibly rare,” she said. “Receiving the SNC STEM Scholarship is not only a testament to my work in sustainability and urban development, but also an opportunity for other underrepresented students to see their goals as realistic.”

Later this fall, Sophia will attend the University of Chicago to study geographic information systems and environment, geography and urbanization where she will pursue courses in public policy to create healthier and safer communities!

Every year, we welcome a cohort of interns across the country in various disciplines and each one receives a dedicated mentor.

Danyel Fiet, OCSMP, ESEP, senior principal systems engineer, is entering her fourth year of mentoring our interns and sharing her knowledge to help them be successful!

“Being an intern takes courage. Courage to ask your mentor questions, try new things and experiment outside of your comfort zone,” she said. “You get to try new things during an internship and it’s important to be open to new challenges! Don’t pass on an opportunity because it looks different than what you had planned. It could guide you in ways that make your path better.”

Our mentors are an incredible asset for our interns and we couldn’t be more grateful for people like Danyel who make it possible!

We're proud to announce the launch of "Sinclair-SNC Academy" in partnership with Sinclair College in Dayton, Ohio! The Academy aims to create a sustainable stream of production-ready aerospace and aviation maintenance technicians to support maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities.

The Academy's evaluation framework was developed jointly by SNC technical directors and Sinclair's Workforce Development leadership and Aviation Technology faculty to provide a "production-readiness" model that transforms baseline aviation skills into SNC-specific performance.

Our Safety team is at the forefront of ensuring is operating in a safe manner, including Safety Toolbox Talks! These talks are quick, informal meetings highlighting a different safety topic with various groups or departments.

In this Safety Toolbox Talk, one of our safety specialists is explaining how and when to use an eyewash station while highlighting the inspection process.

This ensures our team’s knowledge base remains current while strengthening the relationship between safety and production employees!

Every year, we award 5 students across the nation with our SNC STEM Scholarship, including Nyomi Howe!

Inspired by the magical world of Disney Imagineering, Nyomi grew up designing sets and clothes for her Barbie dolls, which turned her love of creating intricate stories into tangible engineering projects!

“It was a huge deal for me to receive this scholarship in support of my academic journey,” she said. “Now, I will be able to comfortably cover necessary fees, and I’m deeply appreciative of the assistance and opportunity.”

In the fall, Nyomi will pursue degrees in electrical and computer engineering with a minor in Spanish at Princeton University, and we wish her the best of luck!
