Being good at your job isn't enough.

The real question: does the crew get better because you're on it?

Think about who made you better. The one who slowed down to show you the right way. The one who caught your mistake before the inspector did and fixed it with you, not in front of everybody. They didn't have to. They did.

That's the job. Not just doing great work. Making the people next to you great at it too. It's also exactly what we look for when we pick a foreman.

So show up ready. Learn something new. Teach what you know. Be that person for somebody else.

When we do our job right, nothing happens. That's the whole point.

The water a whole town drinks comes through a tank somebody on our crew lined. The power plant that keeps the lights on has steel somebody on our crew protected. The building that holds up through a fire does it because of fireproofing somebody on our crew sprayed.

Those people will never know your name. You're protecting them anyway.

That's a strange kind of pride. Nobody claps. Nothing goes wrong. And you drive home knowing a few thousand people are safer because of what you did today.

Not everybody can say that about their job. Everybody on our crews can.

If you want work that matters, this is it.

Some kids wait for their shot. Liam Governal went and earned his. 🏁

At 11 years old, Liam ( ) is already a quarter midget driver. A few years ago he was the kid in the stands at I-55 in Pevely, climbing into other drivers’ cars and pretending. When he got his first laps at Tri-City Speedway, he knew.

There wasn’t a car waiting for him. So he applied for and earned Tri-City Jr. Speedway’s scholarship car. In his first season he has shown up, learned fast, and gotten better every single time out.

The most confident person on the jobsite is usually the one asking the most questions.

Sounds backwards. It isn't.

Fake confidence doesn't ask. It assumes the surface is clean, the dew point is fine, the mix ratio is close enough. Then the coating fails and everybody finds out.

Real confidence comes from humility. From knowing what you don't know and asking before it costs somebody.

Five generations in this trade and it still humbles us. That's not a weakness. That's how you stay good.

Ask the question. Nobody worth working for will think less of you.

Nobody feels like tying off for a five-minute task.

Nobody feels like writing the pre-task plan on a Friday afternoon.

Nobody feels like slowing down when the schedule is screaming.

Here's why we do it anyway.
Somebody is waiting on every one of you.

A kid with a game tonight. A spouse who worries and doesn't say it. Parents who still ask if you're being safe out there.

Either the standard runs the job or the mood does. And the mood has never once thought about who's at home.

Our EMR is 0.68. That's just a number for insurance. But on a jobsite, it looks like a guy taking extra time to tie off because his daughter has a recital at six.

That's not a rule. That's a promise.

You don't earn respect in this trade by talking. You earn it by showing up and doing the work.

This is what a company actually runs on.

Not the office. Not the trucks. Not the name on the door. It runs on crews like this one — people who show up early, do the work right, and look out for each other while they do it.

Mike and his crew have been getting it done for us out in Indiana, and they stand for every field worker we've got. Because the truth is simple: nothing we do happens without the people in the field.

Nothing.

The rest of us are here to back you up. That's the whole job.

This week, our safety team was in Indianapolis at the NSC Safety Congress & Expo — the largest gathering of safety professionals in the country. We want to tell you why we sent them.

It's because of our crews.

The people who show up before sunrise. Who climb into a tank when it's 95 degrees outside and hotter inside. Who work at height in January wind, suit up in full containment, and wear a respirator through a ten-hour shift — and do it right, every single time. That's what it takes to protect America's critical infrastructure from fire, water, and corrosion. It's hard, skilled, unforgiving work, and not everybody can do it.

Our people can. And we refuse to take that for granted.

So when we say safety comes first at CUI, this is what we mean: the people doing the hardest work deserve a company that never stops learning how to protect them. Every session our safety team sat in this week, every new tool they got their hands on, every idea they wrote down — they did it with our crews in mind. Because behind every hard hat is a family waiting at the dinner table. We've been a family company since 1954, and our crews are part of that family.

Everybody goes home. Every night. That's not a slogan to us. It's the whole point.

To our crews: thank you. This week was for you. 🇺🇸
