Insights from Art | The Importance of an Apples-to-Apples Comparison
When reviewing construction proposals, the lowest price doesn't always represent the best value, and the highest price doesn't necessarily mean a contractor is more expensive.
The difference often comes down to what's included in the scope.
Flooring selections, wall finishes, paint specifications, doors, ceiling treatments, engineering requirements, and countless other details can significantly impact project costs. Two contractors may appear to be bidding on the same project while actually pricing very different materials, finishes, and levels of detail.
That's why it is highly recommended to have an apples-to-apples comparison by obtaining a full set of drawings before requesting construction bids.
When every finish, material, and engineering requirement is clearly specified in the construction documents, contractors are pricing the same scope of work. This creates a fair comparison, reduces misunderstandings, and helps practice owners make informed decisions with confidence.
At Arminco, we believe that successful projects begin with thorough planning and complete documentation, because clarity before construction helps prevent costly surprises later.
