Americans must demand more out of roofs to protect us from severe weather. Yet, the ‘best roof’ depends on a wide variety of factors, ranging from geography and weather to budget and roof cover performance.
If you want to find the right one for you, use IBHS's Roofing Roadmaps. Dive into the latest research on wind and hail performance of roofs and guidance on the best (and worst) systems at https://ibhs.org/roofing-roadmaps/

Hurricane season isn't the time to start wondering if your roof is ready for the next storm.
Research from the Center for Risk and Insurance Research found that after Hurricane Sally, FORTIFIED homes were more than 70% less likely to have an insurance claim compared to typically built homes.

🌀 Southeast Texas, be prepared.
With Tropical Storm Bertha expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for flooding across our area Thursday and Friday, now is the time to make sure your home is ready.
At Aran & Franklin Engineering, we know storms don't end when the rain stops. That's why we created our Strong Home Inspection Program—to help homeowners before and after severe weather.
🏠 If you're already a Strong Home customer and your home sustains storm damage, please contact us as soon as it's safe. Strong Home members receive priority scheduling for post-storm inspections, so we can assess your home's condition and help you move forward as quickly as possible.
If you're not yet part of the Strong Homeprogram, learn how it helps protect your investment year-round:https://aranfranklin.com/strong-home-inspection/
Our thoughts are with everyone in the path of the storm. Stay informed, stay safe, and remember—don't inspect storm damage until local officials say it's safe to do so.
If you need us after the storm, we'll be here.

What do you think caused this roof to fail?
During severe weather, IBHS researchers see how wind exploits the weakest link in a structure, often leading to a cascade of damage. To further analyze these structure failures, our engineers then use full-scale testing to recreate real-world storm damage and go frame by frame to determine further findings.
Did you catch what triggered this structure to fail? It started with the carport, which can become a damage amplifier depending on design and maintenance. That failure increased pressure in a critical, but less visible, area – the roof-to-wall connection. Once those connections gave way, the roof and carport went flying.
See how small weaknesses can lead to major damage—and how we’re working to prevent it:
