Traffic deaths do not affect all communities equally.

For American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people, the rate of unrestrained motor vehicle occupant fatalities is 6.9 times higher than for other populations.

Seat belt use on Tribal lands is also lower, on average, than the overall U.S. rate.

🎆Fourth of July Travel Safety Reminder🎆

The Fourth of July is almost here, and with it comes one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. Whether you're driving across town or across the country, expect heavier traffic and changing road conditions.

Here are a few things to keep in mind to help everyone stay safe:

🚗 Expect Heavy Traffic
Roads will be crowded with holiday travelers. Allow extra travel time, stay patient, maintain a safe following distance, and watch for sudden stops or lane changes.

🎇Be Alert in Neighborhoods
Fireworks celebrations often take place near roadways. Slow down in residential areas, watch for reduced visibility from smoke, and be especially mindful of children and pedestrians who may unexpectedly enter the street.

We are proud to have earned this first-ever Yakama Nation Treaty Day Parade Safety Award. This definitely ties into our division mission goals to create safer roads for everyone, and we look forward to continuing to share traffic safety information and promote awareness throughout our community.

We are also honored and humbled to have earned first place in the Yakama Nation Programs non-traditional category.

Our float theme was inspired by a Muppets Lab episode where Beaker accidentally copies himself. It's a fun and lighthearted reminder that safety is important all the time.

Parents — it takes less than a minute to build a life-saving routine:
