What a great morning with the SOMOS family at Topgolf in Hillsboro! ⛳
One of the things we value most about our team-building events is simply having the opportunity to spend time together outside of work, get to know one another better, and include the friends and significant others who are such an important part of our lives.
And this one came with a fun lesson too.

Many of us are definitely not golfers. 😄 There were missed shots, some questionable swings, some surprisingly good ones, and plenty of laughter.
But everyone kept trying.

It was a great reminder that being willing to step outside our comfort zone, struggle a little, learn, and keep going is something worth celebrating, in golf, in work, and in life.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the day special. We’re grateful for the people who make SOMOS what it is.

¡Qué gran mañana compartimos con la familia SOMOS en Topgolf en Hillsboro! ⛳
Una de las cosas que más valoramos de nuestros eventos de integración es simplemente tener la oportunidad de compartir fuera del trabajo, conocernos mejor e incluir a los amigos y parejas que son una parte tan importante de nuestras vidas.
Y esta vez también nos llevamos una buena lección.

Muchos de nosotros definitivamente no somos golfistas. 😄 Hubo golpes fallidos, algunos swings bastante cuestionables, otros sorprendentemente buenos y muchas risas.
Pero todos seguimos intentando.

Fue un gran recordatorio de que estar dispuestos a salir de nuestra zona de confort, equivocarnos un poco, aprender y seguir adelante es algo que vale la pena celebrar, en el golf, en el trabajo y en la vida.

Gracias a todos los que participaron e hicieron de este día algo especial. Estamos muy agradecidos por las personas que hacen de SOMOS lo que es.

That mindset allowed him to cover an incredible amount of ground in a short time.

We are incredibly proud of Braden and grateful that he chose to spend the past three months learning and growing with SOMOS.

From day one, he brought curiosity, responsibility, maturity, and a willingness to step into real-world industrial electrical engineering with both humility and confidence.

It has been exciting to watch him grow this summer, and even more exciting to think about the kind of engineer he can become as he continues his education.

What an incredible couple of days of learning and connection in Costa Rica! 🇨🇷

Members of the SOMOS leadership team had the opportunity to meet with entrepreneurs and business leaders who generously opened their doors and shared their experiences, lessons learned, processes, challenges, and ideas with us.

The biggest takeaway?

Growth isn't only about the next project. Growth happens through relationships, learning, and collaboration.

We came curious about Costa Rica's business ecosystem and professional talent. We leave even more curious about the possibilities ahead and grateful for the relationships created along the way.

A special thank you to Chris Nease, Gabriel Soto y Vanessa Conejo. Adrián Zumbado and Michelle Corriols with PROCOMER, and the wonderful teams at BC Ingeniería and Roofing Solutions for the hospitality, transparency, and willingness to share.

The best conversations are sometimes the ones where nobody knows exactly where they may lead.

Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation to help someone see what's possible.

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting Zaid and Alvaro from Oregon State University for a one-day Job Shadow experience.

They asked thoughtful questions, explored what engineering looks like beyond the classroom, and spent time talking with our summer interns, Braden and Massimo.

Watching those four students connect was the highlight of the day.

Sometimes, the mentor who changes your perspective isn't decades ahead of you—it's someone who's just one step ahead.

That's how confidence grows.

That's how the next generation of engineers is built.

Thank you, Zaid and Alvaro, for spending the day with us. Your curiosity, enthusiasm, and desire to learn reminded us why investing in students is one of the most meaningful things we can do.

Special thanks to Tina Batten and the Oregon State University College of Engineering for inviting us to participate in the Job Shadow Program. We hope this is just the beginning of many more opportunities to invest in future engineers.

La semana pasada tuvimos el privilegio de recibir a Zaid y Alvaro, estudiantes de Oregon State University, como parte de un programa de Job Shadow.

Hicieron preguntas increíbles, conocieron cómo es la ingeniería fuera del salón de clases y compartieron un espacio muy especial con nuestros practicantes de verano, Braden y Massimo.

Ver a esos cuatro estudiantes conversar fue, sin duda, el mejor momento del día.

At SOMOS, we believe engineering is ultimately about investing in people.

That is why we are grateful to welcome Maria to the SOMOS team as our new Student & Community Engagement Coordinator.

Maria is a recent Oregon State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her time at OSU, she was highly involved in student leadership and most recently served as President of the ALAS (Associaton of Latin American Students at OSU).

Maria first connected with SOMOS through our collaboration with ALAS and the SOMOS Latinx Tailgate. In her new role, she looks forward to building stronger relationships with students, schools, and community partners while supporting mentorship, outreach, and new student-centered initiatives.

Outside of work, Maria enjoys spending time with friends and family, going on walks, watching movies, and being around her dog. She also hopes to pursue a career as a surgical oncologist serving underrepresented communities.

We are excited to welcome Maria to the SOMOS family and look forward to the leadership, passion, and perspective she brings to this important work.

Por eso, nos complace dar la bienvenida a Maria al equipo de SOMOS como nuestra nueva Coordinadora de Vinculación Estudiantil y Comunitaria.

Maria se graduó recientemente de Oregon State University con una Licenciatura en Ciencias Biológicas. Durante su tiempo en OSU, participó activamente en el liderazgo estudiantil y, más recientemente, se desempeñó como presidenta de la Association of Latin American Students (ALAS).

María tuvo su primer acercamiento con SOMOS a través de nuestra colaboración con ALAS y el SOMOS Latinx Tailgate. En su nuevo cargo, espera fortalecer las relaciones con estudiantes, instituciones educativas y aliados comunitarios, mientras apoya iniciativas de mentoría, alcance y nuevos programas centrados en los estudiantes.

Fuera del trabajo, Maria disfruta pasar tiempo con sus amigos y familiares, salir a caminar, ver películas y estar con su perro. También espera desarrollar una carrera como cirujana oncóloga al servicio de comunidades subrepresentadas.

We are grateful to welcome Elise Moon to the SOMOS team!

Elise joins us as a Senior Electrical Engineer, bringing valuable experience, curiosity, and a thoughtful approach to electrical engineering.

Inspired in part by her dad, who worked as an electrical engineer for a PUD, Elise found her own path into the field after discovering how much she enjoyed electrical engineering in college.

She is looking forward to working with Mauricio and Javier again and being part of the mission and values that guide SOMOS.

Outside of work, Elise enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, watercolor painting, outdoor photography, gardening, yoga, and making homemade ice cream. Before pursuing engineering, she also worked as a professional chef for a few years. She has two cats and has even tried snake yoga, a unique experience that reflects her curious and adventurous spirit.

We are excited to have Elise join the SOMOS family and look forward to the expertise and perspective she brings to our team and clients.

¡Estamos muy contentos en darle la bienvenida a Elise Moon al equipo de SOMOS!

Elise se une a nosotros como Ingeniera Eléctrica, aportando valiosa experiencia, curiosidad y una perspectiva cuidadosa al campo de la ingeniería eléctrica.

Inspirada en parte por su papá, quien trabajó como ingeniero eléctrico para la empresa eléctrica, Elise encontró su propio camino en esta profesión después de descubrir cuánto disfrutaba la ingeniería eléctrica en la universidad.

Ella espera con mucho entusiasmo trabajar con Mauricio y Javier, y ser parte de la misión y los valores que guían a SOMOS.

Fuera del trabajo, Elise disfruta cocinar, viajar, leer, pintar con acuarela, tomar fotografías al aire libre, hacer jardinería, practicar yoga y preparar helado casero. Antes de dedicarse a la ingeniería, también trabajó como chef profesional por algunos años. Tiene dos gatos y hasta ha practicado yoga con serpientes, una experiencia única que refleja su espíritu curioso y aventurero.

Estamos muy contentos de que Elise se una a la familia SOMOS y esperamos con entusiasmo la experiencia y perspectiva que aportará a nuestro equipo y clientes.

At SOMOS, mentorship is part of who we are. We believe in creating space for the next generation of engineers to learn, ask questions, gain hands-on experience, and see what engineering looks like in the real world.

This summer, we are excited to welcome Massimo Cafaro to the SOMOS team, joining our other summer intern, Braden.

Massimo grew up in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, and moved to Portland to attend Portland State University. He recently finished his sophomore year and will be entering his junior year in electrical engineering, with a focus on the power path.

He has always been interested in engineering, and electrical engineering stood out to him because of the way it connects systems, technology, and problem-solving.

At SOMOS, Massimo is looking forward to learning, gaining experience, and being part of the team this summer.

Outside of work, he enjoys going to the gym, playing volleyball with the PSU Men’s Volleyball Club, playing video games, and watching shows. He also played classical guitar and was a competitive swimmer.

We are excited to welcome Lewis Summers to the SOMOS team as a Master Electrician.

Lewis brings more than 35 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience across instrumentation, electrical, planning, training, and team leadership.

His career has given him a deep understanding of how to design systems that are safe, maintainable, and built to last. At SOMOS, he looks forward to helping bridge field expertise with engineering design so the people maintaining these systems can do their work safely and efficiently.

Outside of work, Lewis enjoys gardening, home improvement projects, camping, hiking with his wife and dogs, and staying current with new developments in the maintenance field.
