đź’Ą From the Archives: Five times the typical amount of explosives, eight blast floors, more than 3,300 drilled holes and a brand-new building just 11.5 meters away.

In December 2001, NDA member Controlled Demolition Inc. helped bring down St. John’s House in Bootle, England — a 21-level structure dubbed the “sickest building in the U.K.” after an unusually high number of workers fell ill there.

The complex implosion required CDI to carefully control the building’s 13-second collapse, directing its massive central core away from the neighboring replacement facility while pulling four precast wings inward.

🏗️ From the DEMOLITION archives: In 2009, Cherry Demolition took on one of Houston’s most challenging projects — safely dismantling the historic seven-story Savoy Hotel after it was declared a public safety hazard.

With just one weekend to remove the building’s most dangerous sections, the team navigated an unstable brick structure, active light rail lines, adjacent buildings and tight timelines through careful planning and methodical ex*****on.

Four feet from Pacific waters. A 1.1-million-pound structure balanced on a single pivot point. An active harbor responsible for moving fuel throughout Hawaii.

Those were just some of the challenges North American Dismantling Corporation (NADC) faced while dismantling a 128-foot-tall continuous ship unloader at Kalaeloa Barber’s Point Harbor.

The NDA member’s award-winning project required extensive engineering, environmental controls, careful coordination with harbor operations and some serious logistics — including transporting equipment more than 4,600 miles from Michigan to Oahu.
