✨Legacy Series: Every great legacy starts somewhere.
For River City, it started in a small family trailer where founder Dwain and his family lived, worked, and dreamed about what the future could become.
In those early days, business meetings and family dinners happened around the same dining room table. Dwain's wife, Phyllis, and daughter, Cindy, would prepare lunches in the kitchen and deliver them to crews working hard in the field. It was a true family effort built on hard work, sacrifice, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
The original shop and garage housed auction equipment and Dwain's innovative, modified creations that helped get the job done. Today, that same spirit of ingenuity lives on as hundreds of vehicles move through what has become the command center of our fleet operations each week.
And the trailer where it all began? It still stands today. Renovated and repurposed, it now serves as our Safety Department—a daily reminder of where we started and the values that continue to guide us.
What began in a small trailer living room has grown into a corporate headquarters in Washington, NC, four satellite offices along the East Coast, and an expanding national footprint through our partnership with XKIG.
As we celebrate 50 years of River City, we're proud of how far we've come—but even more proud that the hardworking, family-first values that built this company remain at the heart of who we are.
