Another airplane picture for today! We received this from an operator in Australia with a Baron 58. The systems were installed in 2023 and the two owners just completed a circumnavigation around Australia! What a cool trip! The systems and avionics upgrade were completed by our Distributor in Australia: Complete Aerospace

Here are some comments from the owners:

"We have just completed our “Circumnavigation of Australia” (returning home on 30th May 2026), all of your Garmin Avionics Equipment just worked perfectly, incredible not a single issue, beautiful just to watch the magic!!!

Jaco, Danni and Southern Aircraft Services (VIC) installed the EIS System on our aircraft in 2023 as part of a major aircraft refurbishment we had done.

We have since done around 220 x flight hours, engines definitely run smoother and easy to start, we are only getting around 10 rpm drop when running on the EIS alone (pre-flight checks), which is amazing.

Not sure exactly what our fuel numbers are to the litre, however we do plan 120 x litres per hour and tend to get around the 115 x litres per hour. We do not lean our engines beyond 60 x litres (on our fuel flow gauges) per hour per engine."

Translated for those of us who use the Imperial system, that is a reduction of 1.3 gallons per hour. If they opted to lean more aggressively, I would think they would see more savings. Although that is still pretty good for turbo'd motors.

Airplane picture Thursday!

We received a couple of pictures from a new installation on a Cessna 177RG. From the owner:

"Here are the redlines I promised on the 41000 IM. Also attached are pictures of my instrument panel and an outside picture of the plane. I don't have good numbers on performance yet, but I can definitely tell about a gallon per hour less fuel burned."

Thank you Kacey D. for the update. I'll post more updates as I get them.

Airplane picture Monday! Received a picture of a beautiful V-35 Bonanza. Electroair system has been installed since 2018. Recently, the engine was upgraded to an IO-550. The Electroair system still going strong! Thanks Dave for the picture.

Airplane picture Friday! Well, at least pictures of a recent installation. Just completed up in Washington is an install on a Bonanza A36 with an IO-550. This installation was completed by Avstar Aircraft of Washington (Mike T. who is an ABS Tech advisor). He has completed several installations over the years. Drop any questions in the comments section!

In the interest of sharing, I received this notice from the FAA Safety Team (see the link). Just another reason to consider Electroair systems! We do not use impulse couplers, and we do not have any required 500-hour inspections. AND we save you gas - on average a gallon per hour for a four-cylinder engine. Please leave any questions in the comments section.

Over the last several years we have been seeing and hearing reports of Slick Magneto Impulse Coupling failures that caused damage to the Magneto housing, which in turn, causes the Magneto to come out of the Accessory Case, or damages the gearing in the case, the idler gear and the shaft. I ran across a thesis from a student at Florida Institute of Technology analyzing the use of Electroair's system on a Cessna 172N that was upgraded to a 180hp engine. In our current environment, we are all concerned about saving gas. We make a difference!

Cessna Owner (CessnaOwner.org) and Piper Owner (PiperOwner.org) recently hosted a webinar discussing electronic ignitions. You can now find the webinar now on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L4wjDkxFm8

Please post any questions in the comments section and check both organizations. If you are not a member, please consider joining. Really good group to work with as they keep promoting the needs of Cessna and Piper owners.

We received an interesting troubleshooting call today:

Piper Malibu
TSIO-520WB
EIS-61000-1M Installed

The pilot reported the ignition was cutting out intermittently above 15,000ft. Below that altitude, everything ran great. Ignition checks on the ground were perfect. Otherwise, everything was running normally. The pilot confirmed that the entire ignition was shutting down and that he was not just experiencing a miss on one or two cylinders.

Our troubleshooting path suggested that we needed to see the engine data, pictures of the plugs and wires and we had the technician perform an inspection on the Mag Timing Housing just to rule out any kind of an issue with the trigger mechanism. The technician sent us some photos.

The Mag Timing Housing looked perfect. No signs of damaged gears and it is otherwise clean (the system has over 300 hours since installation). I really suspected the sensor might be going bad.

Then our production manager looked at the coil picture with me and made an excellent observation: Not only are all of the spark-plug wires bundled together with no spacing, but they are also tie-wrapped to a push-pull cable (whose jacket is likely grounded) and to the coil pack ground wire. We now believe that either one or all of these conditions may be causing the coil to "ground out" at the higher altitudes.

Air is a resistor. As altitude increases, resistance decreases creating the possibility of easier pathways for energy to go to ground. This is also a big reason why we require spark plug wire spacing when installing the system.

The technician was well underway to correcting the plug wires when I called back to share our observation with him. I should hear back in the next few days what they found out.

Happy Thursday!
