This bridge is iconic in so many ways!
James Eads started construction of this bridge in 1867 along with Andrew Carnegie and other sub contractors. The community doubted this to be a feasible idea as steel was not a tried and true engineering material at the time. In fact this was the first time in U.S. history structural steel was ever used on a large scale project. In addition to that James Eads had never built a bridge, he had absolutely no formal training in engineering. He was a self taught man with a vision. Despite 7 years of constant friction and challenges to overcome the bridge opened in 1874 and became know as the gateway to the west. Which is what the arch represents. Following this project Andrew Carnegie saw a future in steel production. He bought a steel mill and started Carnegie steel and became known as “The man of steel”. Carnegie Steel was later sold to JP Morgan and merged with other companies to become what we know today as U.S. Steel.

The steel industry hit a historic milestone 154 years later after a company called JJ’s Fab Shop was formed and later became known as…..I’m kidding🤣
Or am I?

Been a while since I posted an update. We had a revision on this job and had to move a lot of stuff that was already welded. Approximately 2,120 welds to be cut out without damaging the base material. We are in at just under 200 combined man hours on this change and about another 225 to go! Hope y’all have a blessed day and be safe! It’s almost Friday!
