Trusted Technology Starts With Trusted Supply Chains

A new Washington Post AI & Tech Brief puts growing attention on a critical issue related to defense and advanced technology. Knowing where a component is assembled does not always tell you where its supply chain begins.

We have been awarded an $800K M2I2 grant to support domestic manufacturing of our MicroLED for Neural I/o™ optical interconnect technology for AI data centers. We’re also honored to be named Manufacturer of the Year following our nomination by State Representative Kate Donaghue .

Together, these recognitions highlight the strength of our technology and manufacturing teams and our commitment to strengthening the U.S. advanced manufacturing ecosystem.

Can Optical Interconnects Break AI’s “Copper Wall”?

The AI industry has spent years pushing the limits of compute. But increasingly, the question is what happens between the GPUs.

A new white paper titled "The Data Center in a SerDes-Free World" co-written by Kopin and Fabric AI explores what AI infrastructure could look like when massively parallel MicroLED-based optical interconnects move beyond the physical constraints of traditional copper connectivity.

The idea goes well beyond building a faster link. It asks whether removing those constraints could fundamentally change how future AI systems are organized, connected, cooled, and scaled.

As Kopin CEO Michael Murray puts it, “AI infrastructure’s ability to connect compute efficiently is becoming as important as the compute itself.”
