There’s nothing quite like learning by doing, and these photos say it all.

Paxon Smith and Mason Crozier, two of our dedicated lineman apprentices, are spending the week sharpening their skills at a hands-on climbing lab hosted by Rayle EMC. The training is administered by Georgia EMC as part of a rigorous program to prepare the next generation of linemen.

From the ground up, they’re building confidence, strength, and precision. Opportunities like this are where classroom knowledge meets real-world experience, helping shape the safe, skilled professionals our communities depend on every day.

Each year, the Jefferson Energy Foundation proudly awards scholarships to outstanding graduating seniors from homes served by Jefferson Energy Cooperative. Today, we had a chance to celebrate their accomplishments and our 2026 Washington Youth Tour delegates at the annual luncheon.

CEO, Wayne A. Gossage, Jr., spoke to the scholars about the road ahead and how to remain positive and encouraged. This year, JEC awarded 34 outstanding students representing 16 high schools.

These scholarships are made possible through the Operation Round Up program and unclaimed capital credits.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! We wish each of you continued success as you take the next steps toward a bright and promising future.

🔬🐸 Hands-On Science in Action! 👁️🐄

Miss Annette Simmons’ 8th grade science students at Georgia School for Innovation and the Classics had an unforgettable learning experience this week!

Thanks to the Jefferson Energy Bright Ideas Grant, students were able to dive into frog and cow eye dissections, exploring real-world anatomy in a truly interactive way. They truly enjoyed the experience, and their excitement and curiosity were on full display as they identified and learned about the different parts of each specimen.

Miss Simmons shared how rewarding it was to watch her students light up with enthusiasm while making meaningful connections to their science lessons.

Way to go to these young scientists for embracing hands-on learning and discovery!

Memorial Day Office Closure

Jefferson Energy offices will be closed on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 26.

Members can still manage their accounts anytime on our website at www.jec.coop. There you can check usage, make payments, and more, through our online services.

Our CheckOut payment system will also be available at participating locations.

We are closely monitoring the inclement weather that could impact the counties we serve within the next couple of days. Our staff and crews are ready to respond to any outages that may occur as a result of this weather event.
⚠️ Storm Readiness Reminders:
Charge cell phones, medical devices, and backup batteries.
Have flashlights and extra batteries ready.
Avoid downed power lines , always assume they are energized and stay far away.
Keep refrigerators and freezers closed as much as possible during an outage.
Make sure your outage reporting information is up to date.
Secure outdoor items that could become hazards in strong winds.

Congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone! Your commitment, resilience, and hard work have led you to this moment, and we are so proud of everything you have achieved along the way.

As you prepare to take your next steps, we wish you continued success and fulfillment in all that lies ahead. Whether your plans include college, a new career path, or exploring exciting opportunities, know that this is only the beginning of a bright and promising future.

We would also like to share that recipients of the Jefferson Energy Foundation Scholarship will be announced soon! All scholarship recipients and their respective schools will be recognized in an upcoming newsletter, as well as on our social media channels.
