Why Exterior Paint Peels
Peeling exterior paint can be frustrating, but another coat is not always the answer. The flakes may be pointing to a problem beneath the surface.
🏠 Moisture from leaks, cracks or damp areas can weaken adhesion. Poor preparation, including painting over dirt, chalky residue or loose coatings, can also cause a new finish to lift.
Sometimes the new and existing coatings are incompatible, while older surfaces may have deteriorated after years of exposure. Finding the cause first helps ensure that the correct preparation and coating system are used.
