BUILDING BETTER FACILITIES FOR CAPE TOWN'S WATER AND SANITATION TEAMS

Construction is well underway on the additional depot facilities at the City of Cape Town's Engineering and Asset Management Blomtuin Depot, where Lukhozi Consulting Engineers is proud to serve as Professional Services Provider and Principal Agent.

The project involves the construction of new buildings and alterations to existing structures at the operational depot in Bellville — upgrading the infrastructure that supports the City's Water and Sanitation service delivery across the metro.

Working on a live, fully operational depot takes careful coordination, and it's a privilege to help strengthen the facilities that keep essential services running for Cape Town's communities.

Lukhozi Consulting Engineers is recruiting a Professional Structural Engineer or Technologist for its Cape Town office.

The salary will be market related and dependent on the applicant’s qualifications and experience.

Applicants must submit their CVs with sufficient information demonstrating experience relevant to the responsibilities, qualifications and experience below.

JOB DESCRIPTION
· Planning, design and contract administration of engineering and building projects from inception to completion.
· Prepare engineering calculations, project and technical specifications.
· Work independently and lead internal project teams of designers and draughtspersons.
· Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
· Assist with managing and quality checking deliverables.
· Review technical work prepared by junior and intermediate engineers and support the professional development of unregistered technical staff.
· Prepare tender documents and project reports, including inception, concept, viability, design, tender evaluation, progress, financial and close-out reports.
· Carry out structural condition assessments and report writing.
· Day-to-day contract administration and management of structural works on building and engineering projects.
· Handle technical queries and resolutions and lead Site and Technical Meetings, including minutes.
· Communicate regularly with professionals and clients.
· Assist with technical dispute resolutions.
· Assist with project safety and environmental matters during construction.
· General office and project-related administration.

REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural Engineering.
· ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist.
· At least 2 years’ verifiable post-registration experience in planning, design and contract administration of building and engineering projects.
· Experience in bulk water reservoirs, water treatment works, stormwater infrastructure, water-retaining structures, reinforced concrete and steel-framed structures will be advantageous.
· Experience managing design teams and producing high-quality calculations, drawings, schedules and reports on time and within budget.
· Strong understanding of engineering codes and technical standards.
· Proficient in MasterSeries or Prokon, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
· BIM experience, particularly ACC Docs, ACC Build, Revit and AutoCAD, will be advantageous.
· Strong client focus and project ownership.
· Effective written and verbal communication skills.
· Own vehicle.
· Valid Driver’s Licence.

ENGINEERING THE FOUNDATIONS OF COASTAL GOLF ESTATE LIVING.

Lukhozi Consulting Engineers are delighted to share the completion of the Phase 4A : Oceanrise residential development at Olivewood Private Estate and Golf Club.

The multidisciplinary scope included delivery of all internal services including brick paved internal roads, together with the associated stormwater, sewer, water and electrical networks — delivered to a high standard despite the demanding ground conditions across the site. It is a fitting reflection of the resilience and problem-solving that professional engineering brings to complex sites. The completion of this phase unlocks the next release of residential stands in one of the Eastern Cape's most sought-after coastal settings.

PROTECTING CAPE TOWN'S STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE COMMUNITIES IT SERVES

Lukhozi Consulting Engineers has completed a condition assessment of the Southfield Canal on behalf of the City of Cape Town, identifying key areas requiring rehabilitation to prevent further deterioration and protect surrounding communities and infrastructure.

The canal plays an essential role in managing stormwater flow towards Princess Vlei, and this assessment lays the groundwork for the rehabilitation works to follow.

DELIVERING STRATEGIC HOUSING PLANS FOR SIX EASTERN CAPE MUNICIPALITIES

We are proud to announce the completion of the Human Settlements Sector Planning (2025–2030) project for the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements. Lukhozi Consulting Engineers, in collaboration with Tshani Consulting, successfully reviewed and updated the Human Settlements Sector Plans for six municipalities in the Chris Hani District: Dr AB Xuma, Emalahleni, Sakhisizwe, Inxuba Yethemba, and Chris Hani District Municipality (Komani Area).

These updated plans provide each municipality with a strategic roadmap to address housing backlogs, upgrade informal settlements, align spatial development with community needs, and integrate their housing strategies into their Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) for the 2025–2030 cycle.
