▪️Technical Support Specialist (office-based): run our technical support desk, coordinate and schedule the technical teams, handle remote troubleshooting, monitor site alerts, and see support tickets through from start to finish. Minimum 3 years in the solar industry, valid driver’s license.

▪️Support Technician (site-based): out on client sites troubleshooting and resolving issues, assisting with commissioning and maintenance, and keeping solar and battery installations performing. Minimum 1 year in the solar industry, valid driver’s license.

Installation Story | 5 Mountain Lodge & Spa

Greensun Renewable Energy completed this farm installation in Wellington, Western Cape, in 2025.

The system includes 3 × Quattro 15 kVA inverter/chargers, 2 × Fronius inverters, 1 × SmartSolar MPPT 450/200 and 28 × BYD LV5.0 batteries.

The installation supplies the property’s cottages, pumps and horse stables, helping the farm operate largely off-grid during summer and maintain power through frequent grid outages.

The key result: dependable power for the farm and greater independence from Eskom.

AC coupling was used to support the site’s high daytime consumption while reducing the cost and labour associated with longer solar array strings.

17:36 in Welgelegen yesterday, Cape Town. Grid: 0 kW. Battery: 99%, with 26.9 kWh still in the tank for the night ahead. The solar system was running the whole show on its own.

We put 13.3 kWp of AIKO Energy panels on that roof, a Sigen 12kW hybrid inverter and 27kWh of SigenStor storage all supplied by Herholdt's Group . It has been in self-consumption mode since day one and he has barely touched the grid since.

The timing helps him. Eskom went up 8.76% in April and municipal customers 9.01% in July, while inflation sat at 3.5%. His rate is not going anywhere.

Fifteen years and 4,120 projects in, this is still the best part of the job: someone opening an app, seeing a zero, and being pleased enough to tell us about it.

Most farms don’t have an energy problem. They have a timing problem.

Panels are the easy part. The expensive part is that irrigation pumps and a hatchery pull hardest at the hours Eskom charges the most. Winter peak is R8.17 per kWh today, escalating at about 9% a year.

A farm we work with in Heidelberg, Western Cape grows canola, wheat, barley, lucerne and maize, most of it feeding their own ostriches. Water on the lands, and heat in the breeding sheds. Neither is optional.

So we built for timing, not only volume: 133.9 kWp of Aiko modules into a 110 kW Sigenergy hybrid on the farm, and 108 kWh of Sigenergy storage at the homestead so cheap energy gets banked and spent during peak. Their original 65 kWp GoodWe system stayed exactly where it was, integrated and on the same portal.

Roughly 199 kWp and 230 kW of inverter capacity across the property, built in phases as the operation grew.

If you’re irrigating through peak and still fully on Eskom, that’s not an energy problem. It’s a cash-flow one.
