RegenAqua Delivering for Sydney Water 💧

At the 2025 AWA NSW Conference, Emma James, Segment Lead, Recycled Water, Growth & Development at Sydney Water, presented the outstanding results achieved from the RegenAqua Facility at Picton, developed in partnership with Pacific Bio.

🌿 Over 30 months of operation, RegenAqua delivered proven, nature-based treatment performance:
✅ 99–100% removal of Ammonia-N
✅ 95–98% removal of Soluble Reactive Phosphorus
✅ Oxidised Nitrogen reduced to near-zero in longer-residence-time ponds
✅ 90–95% reduction in microbial indicators (E. coli, Enterococci, Faecal Coliforms)
✅ 40–80% removal of key metals (residence-time dependent)

RegenAqua is low-energy, chemical-free, and circular, a scalable, sustainable approach to tertiary wastewater treatment that protects sensitive waterways and ecosystems.

This extended Sydney Water deployment shows how utilities can achieve high-performance nutrient removal and enable future water reuse through a nature-based solution.

🌏 Proven in Australia. Deployable globally.

Australia → the U.S. & the world 🌏🇺🇸

RegenAqua has just been featured in Water Environment & Technology (WE&T), the monthly publication of the Water Environment Federation (WEF).

This is a massive milestone.

WEF is headquartered in the U.S. but represents water professionals across the globe and their magazine reaches more than 40,000 readers every month.

For an Australian nature-based technology to be recognised on this platform is a huge acknowledgement of what RegenAqua is delivering, and where it can go.

🌊💚 Big news from the AWA North Queensland Conference in Cairns!

Our very own Chris Praeger (RegenAqua) and Julian Tickle (Burdekin Shire Council) took the stage to present on:

"World-first ‘green’ wastewater technology adopted by Regional Council to protect the health of the Great Barrier Reef"

They shared the challenges and triumphs of delivering this world-first solution, with strong engagement from North Queensland delegates. It was fantastic to see our CEO, Sam Bastounas, there to support the presentation and connect with industry leaders.

To top it all off, the session was awarded Best Presenter, a wonderful recognition of the innovation and impact behind RegenAqua and Burdekin Shire Council’s leadership.

👏 A huge thank you to Australian Water Association for hosting such an inspiring event — and to everyone who came along to hear more about how nature-based technology is protecting our Reef while shaping the future of wastewater treatment.
