We are a society run by HDR students for HDR student. We hold social events and provide support. Membership is open to all SEF HDR students.

The SEF HDR Student Society is run for HDR students, by HDR students. We aim to support our students through the HDR journey while providing professional and social opportunities.

A great afternoon at our “Your Research as a Business Model” workshop! 🚀

It was fantastic to see HDR students come together to explore how research can create real-world impact through the Business Model Canvas.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, participated in the discussions, and contributed their ideas. We also sincerely thank the Centre for Biomedical Technologies (CBT) for collaborating with the SEF HDR Student Society to make this event possible.

We hope everyone left with new perspectives on translating research into innovation and impact.

It was a fantastic Welcome Week, meeting so many new HDR students and introducing them to the SEF HDR Society! 🎉

We had some great conversations about our plans, upcoming events, and how we hope to support HDR students throughout the year.

What an incredible time for the SEF HDR Student Society! 🌟

We are proud to celebrate two wonderful achievements that showcase the talent, dedication, and impact of our Higher Degree Research (HDR) community at QUT.

💜 Women in STEM: Research Beyond Boundaries
A huge thank you to our inspiring panelists, outstanding poster presenters, judges, volunteers, and everyone who joined us for an afternoon of meaningful discussions, networking, and celebrating research. Congratulations to our poster award winners and thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success.

🌟 2026 Spotlight on Success
Congratulations to all of our Spotlight on Success winners! Your achievements in research, publications, conference presentations, leadership, industry engagement, and community impact continue to inspire our HDR community and demonstrate the outstanding excellence within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

👏 We also extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed behind the scenes—from our executive team and committee members to volunteers, nominators, judges, presenters, and attendees. Your dedication makes these initiatives possible.

Together, we continue to build a supportive, collaborative, and inclusive HDR community where research excellence is recognised and celebrated.

We are excited to invite our SEF HDR students and the wider QUT community to Women in STEM: Research Beyond Boundaries, an event celebrating the achievements, experiences, and impact of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Join us for an inspiring panel discussion featuring:

It was wonderful to see HDR students come together to step away from research 📚, enjoy an energetic Zumba class 💃, and share plenty of laughter and positive vibes 😄

From boosting our wellbeing 🌿 and staying active 💪 to connecting with fellow HDR students 🤝, the session was a great reminder of the importance of balancing research with self-care 💙

A big thank you to our amazing Zumba instructor for bringing the energy and making the session enjoyable for everyone, whether it was their first time or they were experienced dancers! 🎉

And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us and made the event such a success! 🌼 We can’t wait to see you at our next SEF HDR Student Society event! ✨

What an amazing afternoon celebrating cultures together at our SEF HDR Meet & Greet 🌍✨

It was so great to see HDR students come together, explore vibrant cultural stalls 🎎, enjoy fun games 🎯, and connect through shared experiences and conversations 😊

From meaningful connections across disciplines 🤝 to building new friendships and expanding our academic network 🌐, the energy of the day truly reflected the diversity and strength of our HDR community 💛

And of course, ending the event with a delicious BBQ 🔥 made it even more special!
