Happy birthday to me. Unfortunately, I started this thing where we introduce our team on their birthday, so now it’s my turn 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m Alli, Cygnet Brand Construction’s social media manager. I take you along in my pocket and share a bit of what I see.

I’m from New Zealand, and after a couple of trips around the world, I’ve happily landed near family here in beautiful Tasmania. I love being out in nature, making things, and climbing up mountains to snowboard down them.

We’ve been asking our team what buildings inspire them. Turns out picking just one is pretty hard.

So I’ve gone with a few favourites. I’m a sucker for Portuguese architecture and tiles, and the colourful doorways and gardens of Cartagena, Colombia.

Then there are the pyramids at Teotihuacán in Mexico 🤯 I’d never heard of it before visiting. It’s a whole ancient city, with geometry and symbolism woven into its layout. I couldn’t get over the thought and skill that went into building it all that time ago.

A few places I’m still thinking about, years later.

Anyway, nice to meet you ✌🏽

What would it feel like to walk into a home that’s unmistakably yours?

This one began with 55,000 reclaimed bricks, a year of hard graft and clients who knew what mattered to them.

Inside, curved walls and ceilings wrap around you. Soft whitewashed lime render catches the light. Stars and moons are worked into the brickwork, with textures you can’t help but reach out and touch. There’s a warmth you feel as soon as you step through the door.

A work of art built around their values.

Reclaimed masonry, timber and doors bring their own history to a home full of bespoke, handmade details. Our team and the client made the Tasmanian oak window frames together. A myrtle dining table by Richard Ellis and a show-stopping bath by local craftsman Dave Golding sit alongside an extraordinary range of masonry techniques, each executed with care and skill.

The owners’ environmental values shaped the build: a small footprint, solar power, extensive reuse, substantial thermal mass and a scentless indoor composting toilet.

Every curve, material and detail adds to the feeling of a home made for the people who live there. Strong, warm and full of character. Absolutely nothing cookie cutter about it.

Ready to turn your own ideas into a home? We’re ready to work with you. Get in touch with Cygnet Brand Construction and let’s talk about your plans, your priorities and how we can make it happen.

Image note: AI has been used to remove personal belongings and adjust some furnishing colours for client privacy and to highlight the craftsmanship. The home’s architectural features and materials have been preserved.

Happy Birthday Jo!! 🥳🙌🍾🥂Meet Jo Brockman, the unofficial queen of Cygnet Brand Construction. She’d object to the title, so we’ve crowned her quietly. 👑

Jo keeps our administration and accounts in order with a level head, a warm smile and kindness that people remember. An artist, potter, sailor, cook and gardener, she also supports young people navigating challenging circumstances. She’s a proud stepmum and auntie, a sister, daughter and friend. A champion of people, and a joy to work alongside.

As we introduce our team, we’re asking each person to share a building that inspires them. Jo’s pick? in Honolulu, designed by Vladimir Ossipoff.

With its warm timber, mid-century character and beautiful connection to the outdoors, it’s a fitting choice for someone who loves reclaimed treasures, retro and vintage pieces, colour and things with a story to tell.

Swipe to explore the house that caught Jo’s eye. →

When your views are this good, why wouldn’t you make more of them?

This Huon Valley transformation brings those sweeping valley views into everyday life, with expansive windows, a renovated kitchen and a new primary suite.

Some of the smartest changes came from rethinking what was already there. An oversized entrance became a welcoming entry plus an office with its own access. A bulky staircase gave way to a sculptural feature with a glass balustrade, opening up the space beautifully.

Add a three-car garage and a courtyard out the back, and there’s a whole lot more to love about coming home.

Got the location you love, but a home that could work harder for you? Let’s talk possibilities.

What kind of home does a retiring architect design for themselves?

Step one: move to Tasmania.
Step two: find a view worth slowing down for.
Step three: make room for the books. All of them.

While so many people go bigger, this architect chose modest. Less cleaning, less maintenance and more time to enjoy life. Thoughtful design can give you so much more than grand halls.

In this hexagonal home, soaring ceilings create generosity, while beautiful craftsmanship, custom joinery and treasures from a lifetime of travel bring warmth. A library wraps around the room, with a travelling ladder adding a little everyday play.

There’s a kitchen for a passionate foodie, a long table for lingering conversations and a fireplace to settle beside while watching the bay.

Insulation, double glazing and heat-storing brickwork keep comfort in mind. BAL-40 design includes protective fire curtains that lower over the glazing at the press of a button.

But its greatest quality is something photographs struggle to capture: how it feels to be there. Spacious yet intimate. A warm hug of a home.

For your next chapter, would you go bigger, or make more of a little less?
