Connecting with the next generation of Newcastle’s tech talent.

Omnia is pleased to be exhibiting at Newcastle Tech Futures 2026, hosted by the University of Newcastle on Tuesday, 1 September.

Newcastle Tech Futures brings together local employers and students across Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Science and Information Technology to explore career pathways, industry opportunities and the future of technology in Newcastle.

Over the past two months, Bianca and Lily from the University of Newcastle have been completing their Industrial Experience with Omnia, working on the development of the second generation of the Omni-Sense White Cane Tip. Both are studying a double degree in Mechanical & Medical Engineering.

OmniSense introduces omni-wheel technology to the traditional white cane. Using two 50mm Omnia omni wheels, the cane tip can move freely in all directions while providing enhanced sensory and auditory feedback and improved durability compared with many conventional cane tips.

The customer feedback we received on the first generation of OmniSense highlighted the need for an even more robust product to support users’ active lifestyles. Bianca and Lily responded to this feedback by redesigning the axle and bearing assembly to improve durability and better withstand the demands of everyday use.

With just a couple of weeks remaining in their placement, we wanted to acknowledge the contribution they have already made to the OmniSense project. It has been great to see them apply their engineering knowledge and ideas to a real-world product development challenge, and they’re both looking forward to seeing the newest generation of OmniSense in action.

Omnia is exhibiting at the Hunter Defence Conference on 26–27 August!

At the conference, we’ll be showcasing a concept torpedo load handling application built on Omnia omni wheels, demonstrating how heavy and awkward loads can be maneuvered with better directional control and greater load stability.

From specialised equipment handling and logistics to robotics and custom mobility solutions, Omnia technology opens up new possibilities for improving ergonomics, safety and speed.

Over the past 20 years, Omnia's omni wheel moulding operations have undergone a significant transformation.

At our original Tighes Hill factory, the team manually operated four moulding machines, producing 64,404 wheels across four wheel ranges during the 2018 financial year.

Today, our Beresfield facility is equipped with 15 moulding machines, 3 automated production systems and 11 robots. With automation supporting our team, we manufactured 858,388 wheels across 7 wheel ranges during the 2025 financial year — while using only 32% of our total machine capacity.

This investment in automation has significantly increased our production capability, improved consistency and created substantial capacity for future growth.

A defining feature of the Plant Glider is its patented six-wheel radial design, incorporating six 50mm Omnia omni wheels.

The radial wheel configuration provides multidirectional movement, distributes the load across the base and improves stability when transporting heavy potted plants 🪴

Unlike conventional castors, the independently rotating rollers allow the Plant Glider to move in any direction and navigate challenging surfaces, including carpet, decking gaps and uneven flooring.

Combined with its durable body construction, the Omnia omni-wheel system enables Plant Glider to safely support loads of up to 90kg.
