Nestled within a quiet, cliffside cul-de-sac in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, this project presented both a striking opportunity and a series of complex challenges. Set on a wedge-shaped site with a constrained entry sequence, the home unfolds with a dramatic double-height foyer that bridges two distinct wings - all divided by a central pool and unified through thoughtful design and flow.
Originally scoped as a high-end renovation to include new ensuites, kitchen, bar, joinery, flooring, and a dedicated wellness centre, the project quickly evolved as underlying structural and waterproofing issues were uncovered.
What followed was an extensive program of remedial works, but beyond the technical, the project demanded precision and ingenuity. Difficult access—via three flights of stairs and craning materials through the home—required careful coordination, particularly when installing large-format stone elements and bespoke finishes.
The resulting home is both refined and expressive. Nina Maya Interiors has gifted this family home a soft, neutral palette layered with rich textures, contrasted by dark timber joinery and bronze-framed openings that anchor views to the surrounding landscape. Open-plan living spaces flow seamlessly, connecting the interior to a sequence of outdoor zones including the wellness centre, pool deck, and alfresco areas. Lush, terraced landscaping softens the architectural form, creating a sense of retreat while enhancing the home’s connection to its elevated setting.
Delivered with minimal architectural documentation, this project is a testament to collaborative problem-solving and a commitment to both craftsmanship and design integrity.
