Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan is urging residents to check their eligibility for the federal government's new Western Sydney International Airport Noise Insulation Program.

For the next three years landowners in parts of Luddenham, Greendale, Silverdale, Wallacia and Kemps Creeks can now apply for free noise treatment works to help reduce aircraft noise in their homes.

The first cargo flights will take off from July 9, and passenger services beginning in October curfew-free.

Ms Hannan said all noise treatment works will be tailored to each property.

"There's noise abatement with blinds, there's noise abatement of windows and things like that and it'll depend where they are situated and what things are suitable for them," she said.

Ms Hannan said the noise treatment works can help provide peace of mind for concerned residents.

"Remember I also live in some of those areas. I would expect that the amount of noise that we are going to receive is not going to be as bad as some people think its going to."

The state's environment watchdog says motorcycles were responsible for a majority of detections in a first-of-its-kind noise camera trial in Wollongong's CBD and Mount Ousley.

The technology has been in place since late 2024 and used noise meters to pick up sounds above a set decibel limit.

The data from the trial has been provided to the state government, who will use it to create future noise intervention programs.

The New South Wales Environment Protection Authority's Tony Chapple said the results provide valuable information about anti-social driving.

"There's a lot of interesting conclusions for example only half of the noisy vehicles detections were from a small number of repeat offenders and also we had about 50-percent were from motorcycles even though they make 4-percent of the vehicle population in NSW," Mr Chapple said.

Pickleball noise disputes have reached city halls nationwide. Recreation departments often convert tennis courts to pickleball without considering impacts on nearby homes. However, decibel-based ordinances fail to address the impulsive nature of paddle noise. This article presents a framework for municipal zoning ordinances to tackle the problem of pickleball noise in the community: https://doi.org/10.1121/2.0002249
