I would like to thank Robert from Atlantis, the manufacturer of the Flo-Cell water management system, for taking the time to explain the product and its superior capabilities in detail.
During the early planning stages of a project at a rural property in Oberon, I discussed with the owners the option of incorporating this system beneath a new concrete pathway as part of the overall water management strategy for the property. The site presented a significant challenge, with approximately 70 metres of hillside above the house at a grade of over 30%, directing large volumes of rainwater toward the home and entering the property.
After reviewing the site conditions and the benefits of the system, the owners agreed to install the Flo-Cell system along with additional drainage components, including two collection pits. At the owners’ request, the system was designed so that the captured water could be reused to help irrigate their vegetable gardens.
Feedback has been very positive. The system collects water at the pathway pit and transfers it to the second pit approximately 25 metres away, where the stored water is then directed to the vegetable garden area. So far, the system has been performing well and managing the water flow as intended.
The project is still ongoing, but it is encouraging to see such positive results at this stage. Based on my experience so far, the Atlantis Flo-Cell system is an excellent alternative to traditional drainage backfill materials such as blue metal or broken bricks, particularly behind retaining walls and beneath driveways, pathways where effective water management is essential.
