We recently escaped the office & headed down to Melbourne for All Energy Australia 2026, Australia's largest clean energy event! ☀️🔋⚡

Your smoke alarm screams every time you burn the toast… but would it wake your kids in a real fire? 🔥

Here's something most people don't know 👇

Picture this. It's 2am. A heater cord in the lounge room starts to smoulder. No flames yet, just thick, quiet smoke drifting down the hallway.

The alarm out there is an older ionisation type. They're quick to react to flames, but can be slow to pick up slow, smouldering smoke like this, the kind of fire that can start while you're asleep.

And when it finally does go off? The kids' bedroom doors are shut. The beeping in the hallway is muffled. Precious minutes are lost. 😟

That's exactly what Queensland's new smoke alarm rules are designed to fix. By 1 January 2027, every Queensland home needs:

🔹 Photoelectric alarms. They use a light beam to "see" smoke, so they pick up smouldering fires much sooner.
🔹 Interconnected alarms. When one goes off, they ALL go off, so a fire in the lounge sets off the alarm inside your kids' romm.
🔹 Alarms in the right places. Every bedroom, the room (usually hallways) outside them, and every level of the home.
🔹 Alarms under 10 years old. Hardwired, or wireless with a 10-year sealed lithium battery.
