The Prefect Job - HVAC & Refrigeration Technician

Millair Climate Control & Electrical is growing, and we're looking for a qualified HVAC & Refrigeration Technician to join our Townsville & Darwin teams.
We work across a wide range of sites including schools, hospitals, commercial buildings, community facilities, residential properties and government sites throughout North Queensland. No two days are the same, and you'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of HVAC and refrigeration systems with a supportive team behind you.
About the Role
This role would suit a technician who enjoys fault finding, service work, preventative maintenance, repairs and the occasional project or installation job.
You'll be working across both a vast range of commercial and some residential sites, helping keep our clients cool while being supported by a team that values quality work, good communication and ongoing training.
We’re looking for someone who takes a proactive approach to their work — someone who doesn’t just fix the immediate issue, but looks for the root cause, identifies potential problems early, and helps prevent repeat breakdowns.
What You'll Be Doing
• Diagnosing and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems, including DX, chilled water and refrigeration equipment
• Carrying out preventative maintenance and inspections across a wide range of systems
• Completing repairs, minor project works and installations as required
• Attending service calls and breakdowns
• Completing service reports, timesheets and job notes in AroFlo
• Working safely and professionally on site
• Participating in the after-hours call-out roster when scheduled
What We're Looking For
• Experience preferred, but not essential if you're keen to learn
• Trade qualification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
• ARCtick licence — essential
• QLD Restricted Electrical Licence, or willingness to obtain
• Blue Card, or willingness to obtain
• Commercial HVAC+R
• Good fault-finding skills and a practical approach to problem solving
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude
• Australian work rights are required for this position

Another Federal Budget has dropped, and Treasurer Jim Chalmers has officially informed small businesses that apparently we’re all doing fine.

Fuel up.
Insurance up.
Wages up.
Freight up.
Power bills up.
Compliance up.

But don’t stress everyone — apparently inflation is “easing.”

Meanwhile in the real world:
• Tradies still can’t buy a decent pie and iced coffee for under $18
• A box of cable now requires a finance application
• Air conditioners somehow cost more every single week
• Diesel prices are behaving like Bitcoin
• And regional businesses are still expected to service half of Australia for the same margins we had in 2019

The solution?
More reports.
More legislation.
More paperwork.
Probably another committee.

At this point we’re expecting the 2027 budget to include:
“Eligible businesses may apply for one complimentary sausage sizzle and emotional support spreadsheet.”

From all of us at Millair:
We’ll keep training apprentices, supporting local communities, servicing remote Australia and trying to explain to customers why a capacitor now costs the same as a small family hatchback.

Anyway… back to work everyone. Those tax dollars won’t collect themselves.

Another rooftop plant install completed by the team at Millair Climate Control & Electrical.

Our technicians have recently completed the installation of a new BlueBox chiller system servicing a major retail facility. The project involved the installation of new chilled water pipework, including copper headers, isolation valves and connections into the building’s mechanical system.

Works included:
• Installation and alignment of the rooftop chiller
• Fabrication and installation of copper chilled water pipework
• Installation of isolation valves and flanged connections
• Pressure testing and commissioning preparation
• Integration into the building’s mechanical services infrastructure

Projects like this require careful planning, precise pipework fabrication and strict adherence to safety and mechanical standards, particularly when working at height and within operational commercial facilities.
